Is this a recent phenomenon or have there always been people who live good lives wanting to have problems?
Black people who are successful and get all the favoritism and advantages still want to pretend they are being discriminated against because of racism.
It’s this the same thing?

I'm convinced that as a society continues to prosper, at some point the people are so comfortable without any real concern over things like food or shelter, they get so bored that they make up problems.

This phenomenon increases as overall personal responsibility decreases in our culture. It can't possibly be that this guy was just kind of weird or maybe acted like a goof. It can't be his fault at all. It's obviously that he has an affliction outside of his own control, so therefore it's not his fault.

We would've all been better off born without any level of self awareness. Those folks seem to be the happiest of them all.

Because being a victim gets you attention

I'll never understand why people choose to make themselves look weak to others.

Anecdotal example: A co-worker of mine who is successful, married, kids, seemingly happy etc… He just went and got him self diagnosed as autistic and now he brings it up all the time and uses it as a reason why he’s socially awkward and was “never popular” growing up.
Pathetic excuse of a “man”. Sad.

Self-sabotage
Also people have defenses built up for dealing with drama/trauma. They’re subconsciously uncomfortable with peace and happiness

Don't get upset by this trend
In my opinion it makes it that much easier to pass them up in the success scale.
On a bigger level, if you have the right mindset, keep pushing and don't make excuses and make good decisions you will be successful in this life.

I believe this is a subject I must speak upon...
This applies professionally and personally to Young Grumpy...
I'm from a big city. Some folks are just like that. You have to resolve those

Everyone wants a excuse as to why they are not more successful/impressive. The most classic one is the ones who have to bring up that they didn't have rich parents and that's why they are X,Y,Z. "must be nice" "i had to pay for my own college" "mommy and daddy didn't buy me that". Yea, sorry your parents weren't successful and didn't provide the life you covet so much, not sure what you want anyone else to do about it.

I realized about 15 years ago that I didn't need the drama people in my life and I just cut them out... The friends that did make the cut stayed friends with the castaways.. My current friends tell me that the castaways are bad mouthing me and don't understand my absence in their lives... Of course it's my problem and it has nothing to do with them... I'm ok with that so long as I don't have to be bothered with their drama... Some relationships are just not worth it...

I'm not making a judgment one way or the other about this incident, but if you work with engineers, you have to admit that most are at least autism adjacent
The biggest issue is just not picking up on social cues. It's something they can learn to compensate for.

Victimhood = social media attention. A lot of people crave it in today’s times.

it's not weird when you look at it through the lens of the oppressed / oppressor Marxist propaganda that has been pumped into every aspect of our lives for decades. it's actually the completely logical and expected result.
