Howie Mandel is famous for being Howie Mandel.
He's been popping up and making appearances on TV since the 80's with that curly mullet.
I still don't get how he is so well-known and highly regarded.

He was a very well known and funny comedian in the 80's. Quirky like Robin Williams.

Howie Mandel was very popular comic in 80’s - his shtick included blowing up a rubber medical glove over his head with his nose. Good times

He was a successful carpet salesman and stand-up comic. He parlayed that into a role as a med student/resident on a TV show. What's not to like?

Along with being a standup comic Mandel also created and voiced an animated series “Bobby’s World” that ran for 8 years (1990-1998) that was shown on FOX. Bad example for this post.
