Your inexperience is showing.

It's not about not listening to whatever little thing they want talk about, at least not at a restaurant. I listen to my son all day long, he's imaginative and it is fun. It's about that they don't want to sit in one spot and talk for an hour. They want to run around, they want to bang their forks on the tables and plates, they want to sing Mickey Mouse at the top of their lungs, they want to throw food. They have to learn that those behaviors aren't acceptable, and that takes time, patience, repeated attempts, and each time you try they will push every one of your buttons until you cave or want to rage, so you occupy them with convenient entertainment.

THAT is parenting.

Not really I have managed to raise three perfectly fine without letting them ruin other people restaurant experience.

shocking isn't it? My parents did the same. With 4 kids. We never had phones, never took toys anywhere, and never had to be "entertained". We fricking sat there and behaved. When the food came, we ate. Revolutionary, isn't it?

Giving your child a phone rather than interacting with them isn’t being a parent.

What about a coloring page/book? A story book? A math worksheet? A Rubics cube? A mad lib? Word search? Which of these (digitally available) "old school" activities marks the line between "being a parent" and not?

My kids are already past this phase, but I'm wondering just how lazy of a parent I was in hindsight.

I admit that this would bother me too. I let my kid watch YouTube kids when we go out to eat, but he has to keep the sound low.

There's no reason to keep him from being entertained when I've got tv's and adult conversation to keep me entertained.

I really hope you remember to revisit this thread when your child actually requires some work.

You mean like when they show me some drawing and explain everything going on in the drawing? Even going so far as to tell me why they chose the colors that they chose in said drawing?
Or when they’re tired and everything makes them cry?
Or when they’re hungry and mad at everyone?

Did you give your children the phone (or any other means of distraction) for your benefit, or the child’s?

Usually my kids wait until I’m in the middle of nowhere to get hungry.

That's what you got out of that message?

Some do, some don't. If you don't, more power to you, but I promise every parent has a coping mechanism for children.

you've never done anything that was even one iota more for your benefit than your baby's?

I lived it. Sorry you lack the parenting skills of previous generations. Continue to make excuses and rationalize you and your kids shitty behavior.

Oh hell yes I have, sleep only occurred if being held/being moved. So I bought a swing. Thank God for that swing!

No they are not tiny adults but I see it with lots of younger parents that they let their kids get away with anything they can’t tell them no. The kid complains they say no the kid does it again and they cave. They don’t know how to set boundaries and give the kid consequences for repeated offenses. They never spanked their kids and it shows. You don’t have to beat the shite out of them but they need to know who is in charge. Kids are easier to train than dogs if you try.

First of all, I said nothing about the volume. Secondly, you have obviously never been the father of a 2 year old because no 2 year old is spending more than 15 minutes in any restaurant without losing its shite.

You keep doubling down on the “I’m totally not a shitty parent” thing baw
