asking you to call them back without telling you why they are calling (or more specifically, what they need, because the always need something). Do you call them back? It's a red-assing practice in my opinion and something to be avoided.

I am more likely to call you back if you leave me a VM than if you text me asking me to call you

This might be a rare sentiment, but I appreciate a voicemail

Don't call back if they don't tell you why they called. At most, text them and ask them what they needed.

it's the text you're obligated to answer, and resent people for when they do it.

anti-voicemail myself unless it's for professional reasons.

No, It's rare I answer my phone in this cut throat world. Words fly away like the wind, emails save asses.

If you recognize the number of course you call back.

If you don't recognize the number of course you don't.

My Dad used to do this shite (he's an a-hole). One time he called twice and left a voicemail the second time with "Belle, need you to call me" and that was it. I thought, shite this must be an emergency.

It was because he wanted to ask about what brand of fricking chest freezer we bought.

After that, I let him know if he doesn't specify why he's calling then he'll get a call back when he gets a call back.

I don't have VM set up on my phone. I have caller ID, and I have text. If I missed the call, I will see that you called me. If it's important enough, they will send a text with their reason for calling after I don't answer.

I don't even check my voicemails on my personal phone. Just text me and tell me to hit you back instead of having me waste 3 mins listening to some BS. Work is different, for obvious reasons.

I rarely leave a voicemail. But I will let the voicemail message come up and at the beep I just end the call. That way the person I’m calling will get a missed call notification and if they want they can call me back. If they don’t call me back I’ll try again later. Most of the time I will get a call back because I mostly call family or friends. If it’s a business I’m calling I don’t leave a message because I figure if they won’t answer my call they don’t need my business.

I don't return the call if the caller doesn't say what he wants to talk about. There's somebody in our office that does that shite.

And if I'm calling a vendor who has a history of not returning calls, I won't leave a voicemail.

I haven't checked my cell VM in years.

Eta
I return most missed calls either way, unless it's someone I don't want to talk to or know it's going to be a PITA call.

Work stuff is a different story.

I do appreciate the voice-to-text transcript feature on VM. I rarely listen to VMs, but I do read them.

Biggest waste of time. I'm never calling those people back.
