They need to die in a fire.

Until I was forced to switch carriers, I just left my VM full of six year old voicemails, so nobody could leave a VM. On the new carrier, I never configured my VM, but people keep saying they're leaving me VMs anyway, so I stop associating with them.

Mouth breathers.

They're worse than the people that send meeting invites without agendas.

"what you need" is a very rude way to say that.

He's on Tigerdroppings venting about a topic. I doubt he sends "what you need?" to people.

"Sorry I missed your call. I'm available on X day if you'd like to schedule a time to chat. What should I come prepared to discuss?

Feel free to shoot me an email if the matter is more pressing."

There are some things that absolutely need to be a [scheduled] phone call because they are lengthy to discuss, but there's also some things that do not need to be an entire phone call wasting both people's time.

For work, I am not picking up an unexpected call. Look at my calendar, send an invite.

The idiots have no idea if I'm on a call about a proposal, talking to a customer, DIAF. There are four free hours tomorrow afternoon between 10-2, just send me an invite. Don't call me, don't leave me a voicemail.

All of that would be apparent if they'd bothered to try to look at my calendar.

At work...I don't leave VMs and I adamantly tell people I don't listen to VMs. I hate the system they have.

I have a missed call, I call them back.

Yes. That's just it.

We don't share our calendars externally (and mine would be unreliable anyway as the non-call work I do isn't on a calendar), but either way. Cold calling, you have no idea if I'm even AT work. I could be OOO, visiting a client, out at lunch, on the toilet, cooking dinner (west coast clients).. hell, I could be 3 drinks in depending the day/time.

I'm best via email. I will reply to emails at night from my pajamas, from bed before getting up for the day, and everything in between. Unless you need to hash something complex out, your best bet is emailing me.

And if not email, just schedule something with a topic at least.

My pet peeve is when they leave the callback number and say it once at auctioneer speed so you have to listen to the message 3 or 4 times.

Don't call them back. Guide the herd. Behaviors are changed at the personal level.

I hate it when I leave them a voicemail telling them something then they call back without listening to it and asking what I wanted.

I actually have heard that from several people. I'm sure some high functioning people have been taught that by coaches but I have heard it said and I think it's rude sounding.
