My dad and I were walking our dogs and we saw a truck with all four doors open just sitting there. We figured it out too late to get the full license plate, but they dropped off a beautiful 70 plus pound dog. How the frick do idiots drop them off like that? No idea what we are doing to do since Watson doesn't have a dog shelter. Just pisses me off disgusting humans like that can do that to a dog. fricking vermin.

Oh man. Surely there has to be a shelter nearby? Can you afford to keep him?

I'm afraid of volunteering at my local shelter because I know that if I do I'll adopt something. I went to a pet store on a whim and they happened to be having an adoption drive and I left with a little Pomeranian that fell asleep in my arms. I never thought I'd end up with a little dog. And now he's with me everywhere.

Years ago I did it when they kept tearing up my trash. If someone wants to let their dogs run loose then they shouldnt mind if someone drops them off 30 miles away.

I have a dog sleeping at my feet who is alive because someone down there gave enough of a shite to spring him from a kill shelter and foster him until he could be placed in a no kill shelter.

He’s the best dog in the world and he almost died in a kill shelter in Texas. I’m not saying keep the dog, but please don’t take him to a shelter that might put him down if he’s not adopted quickly.

What is really shitty is when they drop them off in very remote areas, leaving the dog to fend for itself.

That's a sign of trash culture.
Sucks too that they don't have enough responsibility to get pets fixed, keep them from running around breeding, and think dumping them out somewhere is an ok thing to do.

I read an article a little while back about this spot in Texas, iirc, that is a known abandonment spot for people to just let their unwanted dogs loose. The county had set up surveillance cameras and caught a man who abandoned his dog and didn't even bother to take the leash off its neck. I just don't get it. Even if you just can't take care of the animal there are legitimate options that are probably even easier than driving out into the middle of nowhere to abandon the animal. It almost seems deliberately cruel. Is it shame maybe? I don't know.

you sure get pissed off silly stuff. Dogs are animals. The vast majority of animals are wild and free. Maybe they didn't want the dog to be a caged animal anymore.

Well, you picked it up, so it looks like my plan worked. I didn't want a dog and you can take one. Everyone's happy.

No chance either of the local shelters will take it.
I would take by the vet & see if it is chipped. You may also want to message Lost Pets of Livingston Parish on FB.
There's always the chance it was stolen or a neighbor was pissed off by it being loose & decided to relocate it.

I would also write down as much as you can remember about the truck, time, street & anything else you noticed so that in case it was stolen you can provide as much info as possible.

People that abuse & neglect animals, kids & the elderly are scum of the Earth & don't deserve to breathe.

Thank you for taking it in & keeping it from getting hit.
