It’s the opposite with the younger generations. They’re marrying at much lower rates due to women having this idea that being “rebellious” is focusing on one’s career instead of raising families.

People who don't want kids are the people who should not have kids.
This is a good thing.

Legally there are some reason to be married

It’s not just a woman problem
I know of a few impotent young men, too

Wife and I are early 30s have been wanting kids for years. Tried fertility treatments that failed (not cheap, and not covered by insurance). Miraculously got pregnant on our own earlier this year, but miscarried.
I know it would make our lives more fulfilling. There are probably a handful who choose no kids, but a lot of couples it’s not by choice.

Why can't y'all mind your fricking business?

not shocked given your intellectual deficiencies.

isnt the whole point of marriage to start a family?
it wasn't for me, but I'm sure it is for most couples. Sometimes things don't work out. It happens.

usually the man, still gets assfricked in the inevitable divorce.
25 years married, no kids, not divorced. Granted, it aint over yet, but I like my chances.

Here is a crazy concept. Not everyone thinks exactly like you

There are institutions filled with old people whose kids have all but abandoned them. Having kids doesn't guarantee you they'll be there for you.

this, times a gazillion, saw this first hand as my mom spent the last few years in assisted living and my sister died in a hospice facility, one of the nurses told me that I had been in that facility to see my sister more times in one week than all of the other residents had visitors combined, for all of the time they'd been there, just left there to die alone, it was sad

While the sentiment might sort of be true, to an extent, the reinforcement by culture and consumerism is what makes it possible to feel ok about doing it.
We just dont shame people enough anymore.
Look, kids arent supposed to be easy. They are supposed to be the thing you would sacrifice everything for...which innately will change you as a human being. And make you a better human being.
Having kids, when you really had to have them or die, forced people to be different.
Now, people can choose the comfort and the "no sacrifice" route, which often just leads to poor results.

This. That is such an odd reason to have or want children.

Since I've gotten sober, I'm not sure what I'd do if I didn't have my daughter to occupy most of my time. It probably sounds kid of pathetic, but my life would be very boring and not very meaningful if my daughter didn't exist.
I can understand some folks not wanting kids though

I know some older childless married couples and seems like a pretty sad existence. 50's-60's with no children or grandchildren. They retired early and just sit around and try to find something to fill the hole whether it be home improvements or traveling.
Seems like a good idea in your 20's to 40's until you get to grandparent age. Kids sound like a burden until you get to be 75 and there's no one to talk to or take care of you after your spouse passes away.

I don't have grand kids and have absolutely no problem finding fun things to do, I know if we had grandkids my wife woould be over doting and a lot of the fun stuff would probably be cut out

This.
I have four bio kids plus a niece we took custody of, so we had five under our roof at one point.
Wouldn’t change a thing…and…the parenting journey is not for everyone. You’ll have times when you’re tired, frustrated, heartbroken, scared, angry. Every bit of it has been worth it to me. That’s simply not true for everyone.

I mean I’ve seen the movie The Big Chill and have offered to assist, but no takers yet.
