People who create a Go Fund Me to cover a new pet's vet bills- Updated

I know someone who recently adopted a dog with some issues. She knew the dog had these issues, but she decided to adopt it anyway. Good for her! The problem: the dog needs some sort of intestine surgery that she can't afford. Now, she knew the dog needed this surgery before adoption. So, she has created a Go Fund Me and is trying to raise 5 grand to cover the dog's vet bills.
Why adopt a pet that you know has medical issues, if you can't afford to take care of it? She even mentioned that she "beat out" two other people who wanted to adopt the dog, so it's not like it was going to be put down.
It's one thing if it's been your pet for years and it develops health issues that you need to cover.
Moral of the story: stop begging for money
Update: the dog died

newsflash: people are dumb and make bad decisions.
its not limited to pets or finances.
I feel bad for the dog.

If you don’t have a couple thousand ready to go you shouldn’t have a dog

I think it's awkward when people do it, but if others are going to donate, then what can you say?

Strong agree. Especially on vacations.

I did the math the other day and it takes approximately $700 a year to take care of a medium sized dog(food, annuals, flea and tick). That’s assuming nothing is wrong with it. If something is wrong with it a vet visit could be a couple thousand. Way to many people get dogs who can’t afford them.

yeah, I always like when people complain about being stretched thin or the cost of a service cause they are broke dick poor, then turn around and tell me about the Disney trip they are taking.

Travel ball uniforms, the church, hobos, saving a dogs life...
There is a clear leader in the clubhouse for which one I would donate to first.

If you can't afford the vet bills, you don't need an animal.
Especially one that had problems you knew about before adopting it.
Sounds more like a scam to me and the woman gets what she can and to hell with the dog. You know how many pairs of shoes and purses she can get for $5K???

I have a 15 lb dog..Just off the top of my head...food, treats, Vet and heartworm meds..a very liberal estimate is $270.00 a year..
He is about to have a teeth cleaning and that's going to run $180.00 and hopefully he doesn't have to get any teeth pulled..that will add to the cost. His breath smells like rotten shrimp.

I just paid $260 for my wife’s dog teeth cleaning but it’s cheaper than dental work down the road.

But why should I pay for those things when strangers are willing to pay for me?

Unless its for unexpected major medical bills, loss of life, or some other extraordinary situation I think all gofundmes are nothing more than an electronic way of rattling a tin cup to the world. If anything, it's an even lazier form of begging

We adopted a rescue from ARN and turned out it had pulmonary stenosis. Surgery cost 4,500 to fix his issue....
We made ARN pay for that shite.
