This isn't near as complicated as many of you are trying to make it out to be.

This also isn't near as dramatic as you are making it out to be.

Really, when was the last time you had time off denied because of someone else's kid? If that happens often (it doesn't) then your workplace is the real problem.

They must be. And if they can make that arrangement with the bosses, more power to them.

I've had one specific instance where it was a big problem and not primarily, but as big part, that organization lost 11 people in 6 months.

A problem whether you have children or not.

Just comes down to not abusing the system, IMO.

So thank god our daycare never closed during covid, but there were times we were forced to quarantine. That was happening with a child or without.

So, one time, and it cost the company 11 people. Yeah, that's a workplace problem, not an individual one.

Correct, and no that organization is screwed because of a problem that is very hard to fix due to societal pressure.

You doubt that employees have employment contracts?

Yes.

Hence why they are employees and not contractors.

In fact I don’t know a single person who has an employment contract with their employer. Most states are at will.

Just because they are employees doesn't mean there's not a contract.

If you know anyone with paid time off you know people with employment contracts.

This is really it. We are very lax, but we've definitely had some folks take big time advantage and everyone becomes super resentful in those cases.

That's a leadership problem. And that sort of thing happens all the time in other situations too. Some people slack off, or are constantly showing up 15-20 minutes late, or take 2 hours worth of smoke breaks, etc.

The kicker of having an awesome boss that is lax and trustworthy is that those who don't deserve to be trusted go unnoticed for a while before people get fed up and start complaining.

For sure. This thread really should be able lazy employees more than about parents. Lazy employees who are also parents, however, get away with more than they would if they didn't because most kid excuses are deemed legitimate/excused.
