What field are yall in where if someone leaves early you have to catch all their work immediately that day then and there?

Plenty of jobs and industries are like this. Most jobs I have had were like this

I've never seen that happen ever before, ever.

You’re responding to a lot of people in sales. Project based work that requires team delineation is completely different from sales people and cold calling. Someone who sells insurance and is on a “team” can take care of kid obligations during the day with much more leniency, especially since they can make their cold calls from anywhere, than a product manager working on a new product inception who works with multiple technical teams where milestones keep pressing deadlines into check.

I'm not going to say that it never happens, but no I definitely don't think that happens often.

That's fine and no one blames you. But don't get mad if you get let go if you have that attitude.

I'm the master of my own domain at work. Meaning, I work independently. Nobody needs to pull my slack.

As an adult, I can do both. Both if I need a day off for my child who is sick, I'll use my allotted time. Don't really care what anyone says about it.

If I start slacking, feel free to find someone better but that will never be an issue.

My wife and I are lucky in that our jobs are pretty specialized and would be very hard to replace considering the location...BFE Louisiana.

Client facing. It's not life or death, but it's expected to be done. And if you leave at 2:30 every day to pick your kid up it still has to be done.

Sure, but that same person agreed to a contractual obligation to perform some sort of work.
If neither side addressed the issue of raising children, perhaps it's time to renegotiate?

Having kids at some point in our lives is kind of implied for most people. Would you specify "must be an absentee parent" in a job description?

Sure, if you want to work part time, you get paid for that. I have no problem with it.

No, but if your expected to get 40 chargeable hours a week, having a kid doesn't change that.

And many people get both done, great, no problem.

But there are people that think they have a license to do less work because they have a kid. That's not the case.

Thats getting down to the bone here.

Who says im contributing nothing here? I gave the Hooters girl a $20 tip. That money is probably going to her 'contributing to the continuation of the species and trying to raise a valuable member of society'

Who is doing this daily and still keeping a job? Yeah it happens occasionally that he gets sent home early because of a fever, and my wife or I have to get him. Sometimes pre-school closes on days that aren't work holidays, but those aren't surprises and I can arrange to work from home or take PTO.

Someone showing up at 9 and leaving at 2:30 daily would quickly get canned or compensated as a part-time employee.

That's fine but I'm pretty insecure about having to take days off for sick children. Its not something I enjoy asking because I think it makes me look like a putz. There's nothing we can do though.

Again, it goes back to how I used to manage and hated people who routinely did this. We always shied away from young women in interviews for this reason. Routine absences. Makes me feel awful looking back.

My wife (no pics) misses a lot of work dealing with therapy sessions for my autistic son. She works a lot from home making up for it and also is allowed to work from home most of the summer even though their office had to return to work

No, but those are two jobs where if you dont show up to work, your work gets absorbed.

I just gave you a few answers to your question. Ive never really had a job where I could just leave and the work doesnt bet put on someone else.
