Obviously if you go to church on a day everyone goes to church than it will be crowded ... Good god ... If you got to a mall on Christmas eve is it crowded ? ... The church is a business ... Its biggest tax free offerings are the holidays ... Special occurrence when god is super stoked about all the offerings coming his way !! If you don't want to submit your offerings to pay the church electric bill on christmas eve do it another day than ... Thank you Jesus for this thread ... Amen

Fortunately for all of us (even you, OP), God's judgment is tempered by His Mercy.

Happy Birthday, JC.

ETA: People who "only" go to church on Christmas Eve also go on Easter.

Way to take it out of context. I was responding to an OP complaining and judging people who come to church on Christmas. I don’t judge others in what they do. Judgement is the lords.

Now, were the thread on serving others hat is what Christmas is about. We are in fact heading out now to bring some Christmas joy to others.

Merry Christmas to you even though you had no clue in your response.

It’s not holy days of obligation that matter.....it’s how you treat people every day.

Maybe someone in that crowd goes just to please a family member and ends up wanting to start going for themself?

Christmas Eve services at my church are less about catering to the people who go on a regular basis and more about being a welcoming place to those who don’t.

And I’m ok with that. Pretty sure Jesus is ok with that as well.

ETA: We don’t even take an offering on Christmas Eve services.

People can do whatever they feel is good for them. In many cases, people only attend on Christmas because its a family thing. The family is together and the parents enjoy going to mass or service with their children, etc.

But personally, as I got older I started only attending on Christmas & Easter.. And maybe one or two times in between.. But then I just felt like it was somewhat hypercritical. I was only going because.. "that's just how it was". And told myself going to church doesn't make it Christmas. Its about being with friends.. Family..

While I was raised Catholic, my beliefs don't really align with the church... Or any church really. I just don't believe people have to go to mass or service. What is the difference between the person who prays in private and is at peace with themselves and the person who goes to mass/service?

Jesus calls you out pretty hard in the bible.

But you'd know that if you were a real christian.

Don’t worry, I continued my tradition of not going to church at all because I don’t like wasting my time

So some of the people that may benefit from going to church, once or twice a year should not go at all? Maybe this visit might turn it around for them. You don't get to judge them, God does, and he will forgive our sins, no matter how much we inconvenience you at Christmas eve mass.

This I can get behind.

That sends a message IMO.

Im sure its safe to say Christmas eve has the highest attendance of the year. And if the church can say "Welcome. Today we ask nothing of you" that catches your attention.

I assume you are not going to a Catholic church right?

I’m not Catholic.

At regular Sunday services when the offering is taken the pastor always makes sure to tell people if they are a guest to please just let the tray pass them by. We actually give welcoming gifts to guests if they fill out a welcome card and see the welcome desk after the service.
