I would, if I could get John Cleese to read it to me.

very good point. most people don't bat an eye while eating a burger or steak because the cow is an animal which in our (and most) societies exists solely for sustenance.
same rules apply with an environmental activist who will die to save a tree, but gladly cut down a corn stalk to eat some delicious sweet corn

the cats/dogs versus other animals debate boils down to the fact that for a lot of folks these animals become another member of the family vs some animal that the individual has no knowledge or attachment to.
What about the folk who get all worked up about a dong over in China or down at Farmer Olaf's farm that they have no knowledge of or attachment to? I'm not saying "EAT MORE DOG", but the people who react so ardently to those with different cultural experiences (those who eat "strange animals" or those who choose to pull an Ol' Yeller). It just baffles me how hypocritical people can be

It really doesn't baffle me at all, anymore. I've accepted it as a given, like the sun rising.

I'd argue that the more "human" we perceive something to be the higher its relative value rises in our ken, at least in western culture.

Dogs serve a purpose and can love you back whereas many other animals lack that capacity.

I'll give you that. At least dogs are faithful 'til the end.
Just so we're clear, I love dogs (and not as an appetizer).

He might need a proofreader for that.

How dare we do something like that when other people consider that to be barbaric?
That is pretty much the reverse of the position everyone seems to hold here, but Scruffy doubts they give a cow's arse.

There are monks who won't eat anything living or that has been alive. I forget what order. They don't step on ants either.
As for your average joe, there is too much gray these days. I prefer to look at things clearly, in black and white.
Nice to have you back.

But the world isn't monochromatic. Part of the beauty of it is the fact that it is a celebration of color. It's as magnificent as Dorothy opening her eyes with the memory of bleak Kansas and seeing the wonderful hues of Oz.
That and some bitchin' shoes.
