Not many people that I know have left but the job market is terrible if you don’t have connections or a degree in high demand. If I lost my job I would have no problem leaving.

Oh look this thread again! LA sucks man.

What’s California’s excuse?
They have 36 million people. Them losing many every year doesn’t matter in the greater scheme of things. Comparing CA population to LA’s population of 4.5 million is silly.

People realize they can have a better quality of life in other states. Many move to Texas cause they can have the better quality of life....but are close enough to easily visit older family members stuck in their ways and hellbent on staying in LA forever.

I would have stayed in Texas forever. But my LA wife wanted to come back some day, so we did.

Exactly. I know plenty in their 70s or 80s. The ones who stayed really, really wanted to.

We moved about 6 months ago.
Benefits: Between the two of us it was a $55k raise, we don’t pay state income tax, public schools aren’t shite, and we got way more house for the money. Traffic also doesn’t compare whatsoever to BR’s hellhole traffic issues.
Cons: Food is different; which seems to be a benefit people from LA love to cling to. “Sure we have a major budget deficit, failing schools and corrupt as frick government but have you ever had a poboy?”

I get taxed less to use infrastructure that isn't shite. I could never make the money I make out of state without spending 5 days a week on the road. When I first moved away from home, I schemed constantly on how to manipulate my career to get back, but after a few years away I realized there's much better out there(frequent trips back to La help present an even more stark contrast). I still miss a lot of things about Louisiana(it's hilarious listening to gumps describe good food and duck hunting), but I'll never move back.

I moved away this past summer. Settled in south MS but it was for the want of a simpler quieter life for us and the kids. Didn’t hurt that the oilfield bust was really starting to be felt in my area of south LA. Been great so far.

Nurse summed it up well. I deeply apologize if this offends anyone, but you can get a better quality of life in TX. No state income tax, great public schools, car insurance is 1/2, cheap electric due to deregulation, no tax on groceries, cheaper housing, etc...
Louisiana list 55,000 people last year. But after you factor in births, etc..net loss was 10K. But only 8 states lost people last year and Louisiana made the list 2 years in a row where only 7 states lost people.
TX gained around 1,000 per day.

If you don't want to be an Engineer or Oilfield Baw, your opportunities are better if you leave than if you stay.
unfortunately, those 2 sectors have been struggling the last 4-5 years due to the ongoing offshore oilfield bust. Oilfield baws can make a killing out in West Texas though

I'm a unicorn I guess. I had an offer in Dallas 10 years ago for 10% more.

In the medical field. Could work and live anywhere in the country that I wanted. Nearby family, food and going see the Tigers when I want still wins out for now.

This has been going on forever. I have not lived in LA since the day I graduated from my undergrad at LSU.
