Scruffy,
My point about the triage being a filter is that the patient HAS been assessed by a medical professional and determined NOT to need emergent care.
I get that fevers, dull pains, and such cannot be filtered out but there are certainly cases being presented that have the ability to be referred to an Urgent Care clinic.

Now, we do have a branch of the ER where NPs are staffed and they get lower acuity patients, but they have to be seen by at least an NP for liability reasons.
At least that is my understanding.

Not only is it paying your dues but residency is 3 years, then your salary quadruples.
If you are a teacher you basically pay to intern (tuition). If you're a CPA, you still work dog shite hours after 3 years and don't even sniff 6 figures. If you are a lawyer, you make 6 figures out of school if you go to a good firm but you work dog shite hours.
So you know what doctors? Take your shitty patients and enjoy them because you are quality of life to hours worked ratio is better than any other profession.

I have a question:
Why does it seem like every ER doctor does not accept an insurance plan that the hospital accepts? You don't get to choose your ER MD you go to the hospital that accepts your coverage though. My carrier Cigna would be supported at the hospital. My wife was seen by 1 ER doctor constantly. A second doctor literally walks in to check if anyone has seen her yet and tells her not to swallow the ice the other doctor approved for her 5 min prior and is never to be seen again.
I get balance billed for $1600 from the second asshat that did absolutely nothing and was not needed because he is not a Cigna participant. Wife was determined to have her first kidney stone FWIW.

BTW OLOL in BR is a complete cluster frick.
I had to bring wife to OLOL in LP for severe dehydration after she was sick. Her electrolytes and potassium was at the floor. They transported her to OLOL in BR and the nurse literally hid her IV machine that came with her from the other hospital behind her head in fear so that someone else wouldn't walk in and steal it.
They ordered some Potassium for her to get ASAP which was taken by other nurses for their patient 2x before my wife finally got her dosage. That was eye opening..
Week later I took her to ochsner on bluebonnet and they had IV machines lined up ready to go.

What did you expect would happen once BRG Mid City ER closed?

Thank you. Thank you for admitting it. I come home every day and listen to it. I really needed that acknowledgement.

My residency is 5 years and fellowship is essentially mandatory to get a job nowadays. Also, my salary won't quadruple.

If everything goes as planned, I'll do 6 total, 3 for residency, 3 for fellowship.

Either way you will eventually be making good money. You chose to become a physician for the income potential. Nobody feels sorry you have to suffer in the beginning.

I guess I never expect to see an atmosphere where nurses are stealing shite from other patients and everything is in a constant state of chaos. I never visited the BRG so I guess it was like that there. Dunno
I didn't get to choose the hospital in that case. I did the following week. Night and day experience. I told my wife if anything ever happens to me do not drive me to any of the OLOL regional ERs because they have to transfer you to the zoo if its serious.

Yeah, well, all I ever hear from doctors is whining about patients. Yeah, working for a living sucks. Get the frick over it. You guys are becoming the new teachers.

It is a perk, but not the motivating factor.
Hell, I picked one of the lowest paying fields.

Just meaning that OLOL ER is much busier cause they are getting all the patients that BRG Mid City used to see(which were patients that EKL ER used to see before that).
There is no ER located in NBR now for residents to go to now. Where else will they go?
