"No...actual cows"
Sounds like a Farmers Insurance (I think it's farmers, anyways) commercial.
"cows attacked you? Yep, it happened April 13, 2016"

I have no problem seeing kids.
The absolute worst patients are men between the age of 25-45. They are the whiniest sons is bitches you'll ever treat.

For those non-emergent situations like "itchy scalp" couldn't the triage nurse say
"Your child's condition is not life-threatening/emergent. Therefore we cannot bring him into the ER. We have however set you up an appointment at our Urgent Care facility for 8am tomorrow morning" "Now GTFO"
Why do hospitals allow these non-emergent cases to filter passed the triage? Is it because they know they will receive at least some form of payment even if it isn't from the patient?

He's only saying what every medical professional that has ever worked in ER has thought

Most ER MD/PAs are part of the problem, not the solution. Especially the fricker I work with. Orders Dissections/PEs like they're more frequent than the common cold. Mostly on perfectly healthy patients from early 20's to mid 30's. You've got a belly complaint? CT and/pel. Headache? CT head. On and on. Complete with full workup of every diagnostic tool at their disposal. No matter the level of urgency. Ordering tens of thousands of dollars worth of exams/labs before even seeing the patient. 90% are non paying, no insurance patients.

As a firefighter I hate when we get called out at 3am for stomach pains, chest pain, things of that nature. When we get on scene and ask "how long have you been having these pains?" the answer will inevitably be, "oh for a couple of days" or "since about 8 this morning". Drives me nuts.

PT was in an mva, comes in and gets a trauma work up. Wreck was 3 weeks ago.

I'm sure, but it's not some new phenomenon
especially at the charity hospitals. People are dumb. I've only been to the ER for myself once when I was a kid. Having been with grandparents lately, the pediatric ER is light years better than the regular.

If it's a first time parent, you need to cut them some slack. I remember being scared to death every time something wasn't right with my 1st and had to be talked down by parents and in laws.
Now it would take a lot to bring a sick child to an ER.

Yeah but sometimes you just have to be able to vent. Maybe he was just having a really frustrating/bad night

Most are very understanding of first time parents. Because we know that first time parents may need more attention from the staff. If we get a baby admitted to the floor from the ER the nurse down there usually gives us a heads up if parents are first timers.
