Starting with the Boomers , we all have NO idea how lucky most of us are to have avoided the human calamity for the most part. SO FAR.

That’s because the world elite are saving the best for last. As this simulation winds down over the next 100 years we are going to witness horrors that generation couldn’t have imagined. Billions more people on the planet with access to technology that helps us witness and create carnage on a scale never imagined before. Better buckle up.

World War I (Nope, in HS in Nov. 1918)
Spanish flu epidemic (Nope, didn’t get it)
Great depression (Worked continuously for a RR)
World War II (Nope, vital industry employee)
Korean war (Ditto)
Vietnam war(Retired, too old)
What a difference one or two birth years make.

I guess we should remind ourselves when bad things happen today. Bad things have always been happening.

And yet we see people posting on TD that "things have never been as bad as they are now."

Just think if you were a Russian or German born in 1900. Yikes!

Yep. That German Jew had every problem the other Germans had except reconstruction after WW2 - because he had been gassed. A Ukrainian farmer would be another bad bet.

Add:

- Cold War threats
- Cuban Missile Crisis
- JFK assassination
- Watergate
- Riots related to Civil Rights and Desegregation
- Inflation under the Carter administration

I always laugh at people when they say "the world is ending" or "how bad things are". And tell them someone born 1900 would laugh at them.

Yes. I’m disappointed that I did not ask my grandparents enough questions before they passed away. I know before they had AC they used to put my dad and his siblings on the floor to sleep and let the attic vent fan run. They said the wooden floors were always cooler even with blankets.

At the time, we lived in cross lake in Shreveport. She told me she remembered when the lake was a stream and indians lived by it. Her grandson was a pioneer heart surgeon. He came up with a artificial heart model. She also had a locket of hair from a realitive that died in the civil war.

People used to get worms all the times.

My dad says that my grandpa used to talk about throwing up hundreds of maggots one time as a kid. They lived in the Camden New Jersey Irish slum that would be considered a lower class third world conditions now.

My grandpa went on to parachute behind the front lines of the D-Day invasion with the 101st and become a school superintendent.

I thought the OT all wanted to go back to 1900 bc back thurn men had to walk 25 miles urphill both ways and change their own earl in their cars. When it truly comes down to reality, I would not want to be born then. AC wasn't widespread I think until 1930 or 1940 I think.

My grandfather was born in 1902. When I was in 5th grade they asked us to interview a family member who had lived through the Great Depression so I chose to interview him. He told me he didn’t know things were that bad because in NorthLa they were all poor so nothing really changed. He didn’t find out until the textbooks started talking about it in the 50’s that it had been a big deal.

Well, somebody told us Wall Street fell
But we were so poor that we couldn't tell
Cotton was short and the weeds were tall
But Mr. Roosevelt's a-gonna save us all

One measly championship in Football in 1958 and unless you made it until a 100 years old you never saw another one

Had to make to your 90's to see Skip do his thang in baseball and start the dynasty

Make it to your 80's to watch those Dale Brown teams but at least got to see the Pistol Pete. I am jelly about that one.

I will say being a Gen Xer is where it's at for the Tiger fan

Except, you know: Vietnam War, Jim Crow, Nuclear Panic, McCarthyism, and the assassinations of both Kennedys and MLK.
