A guy who used to check my receipts at Costco quit his job to become a Life Coach.
True story.

They are akin to sports coaches or work mentors. They help a client set goals and create plans to reach those goals, with progress checks and plans for handling roadblocks along the way. Can also help with plans for time management...lots of stressed people out there today...kids, jobs, lack of financial help, busy days, can't workout, etc. Also serve as a sounding board...someone not emotionally wraped-up in your life, like a helicopter parent or jealous sibling. Life gets hard for folks.
I've never been one or been to one, but I've been around awhile.

Honestly, there is so much less mentoring than previous generations that this is the attempt to fill the gap. It's absolutely pathetic how little most upper/middle management interact with younger staff and new seniors/first reviewers.
Agreed….honestly, I would hate to have started my career within about the past 5 years. The mentoring structure has been nonexistent since the start of the Covid pandemic.

I have friends and people I know who are life coaches. Most of them have read books and adopted others ideas that make them sound incredibly capable. But, very few have ever been in the weeds. They sound good in theory but have never opened or run a successful business or put in the sweat equity that many business owners and executives had to endure. They are good at higher level conversations and make one feel confirmed but I can’t get into the whole life coach I read a book therefore I am mentality. I have with lots of effort surrounded myself by men who are successful in business and in life. I have purposely pursued relationships with men who are excellent in their trade, love their wife and pursue God. It’s been very healthy for my marriage, finances and business endeavors. I do have a personal trainer to help me stay on track physically because without it I’d feed my stress and be as big as a double wide. So he is kinda a life coach in theory.

There is a late “Life Coach” movement that is a pyramid scheme.
You pay your upline to take classes and sign up others to take classes from you. Etc…..

My SIL tried this for a while. She is also retarded. I can only assume the people she was assisting were dumber than her.

Occasionally you’ll come across someone who is a decent life coach. I’ve referred out to one before when it’s someone who doesn’t have diagnosable mental health stuff going on.
But there’s a whole lot of “life coaches” that flunked out of their Masters program to become a therapist. Or they think they’re a therapist without the licensure.

What’s the success rate of marriages that went through counseling with a priest vs those who did not?

Sure thing!*
*Here lately, you've been getting called out on here a bit... This relationship is starting out on thin ice... This may take some extra initial sessions to separate the wheat from the chaff. Are you willing to stick with it and trust me? Honestly, I see great potential in you...I can picture a great future, but it will take work.
I'm ready and willing... Are you?
