For real though, if we could keep the bitching down that’d be great. If y’all want to bicker over what constitutes being put into ICU for another 6-6 pages take it somewhere else.
For this thread how about we all agree that this thing will land somewhere between a nothingburger and the end of the world. That way we can get back to sharing information and updates.

Now, he said, he was getting progressively sicker and finding it more difficult to breathe. He said security guards had been stationed at the hotel entrance to prevent patients from escaping — and there were no doctors or medicine. “This is really like a prison,” Mr. Deng said. “Send me to a hospital, please, I need treatment,“ he said, in between bouts of coughing. “There is no one to take care of us here.”
That is absolutely nuts. This is why I don’t trust any of the numbers out of China. The government doesn’t care one bit about its citizens.
The cases outside of China is all we can go off of - and thankfully the numbers are much better - but I think we have another month until we know what we are facing in the Western world.
And slackster - give it up.

Have any numbers been released about ethnicity or gender percentages? I know there was speculation that it was targeting Asian males the hardest. I’m just wondering if that’s a big reason why we haven’t seen the spread worse outside of China.

That’s about where it’s at... Mark me down right in the middle, skewed to nothingburger.

Sorry to have continually pissed people off with facts. Funny how that works.
Let's get back to the emotionally driven hypothetical this thread loves.

"Facts" = Goose stepping with Communists

One month ban bet the total cases when this is done doesn't get to 15k. You in?
You should ban yourself 4 months since total case is 4X 15k. That would be a nice fact.

Agreed.
I'm just trying to figure out how India hasn't had more cases.

I wouldn't ever call it a "nothing burger", for there obviously have been a number of deaths.
Like stating only a category 1 hurricane, that floods some properties as nothing. It is to those who are affected.
But, I'll agree that overall, it's nowhere as bad as the worst fearmongers are stating, but definitely more than a handful of common cold cases.
My guess? Somewhere in the middle. Probably more, much more, than the official Chinese numbers are stating, but not astronomical

9 more infected in Singapore, totaling 67.
8 people on that cruise ship in serious condition.
1715 China healthcare workers infected, 6 died.
Japanese taxi driver diagnosed with coronavirus; 1st case in Okinawa; woman had contact with "Diamond Princess" cruise ship passengers on Feb. 1
All from BNO
So how does a passenger infect a cab driver? Money exchange?

The excitement as the cases and deaths rise is embarrassing, yet expected from many of you.

Rumors from my company that has manufacturing in Singapore say that Singapore is considering going into Red alert status and having people stay home.

There is some cause for concern that China is being very very deceitful about reporting, and yes, what is being reported would make this a very mild outbreak. But if it is two to three times as deadly, and the incubation times are much more, and the testing is inaccurate....then this would be very concerning for a large portion of the world.
Again, I dont think anyone would be excited.

Pretty easily if they cough or sneeze in a confined space. That’s not surprising for a respiratory illness.

Everyone is looking for information they can extrapolate into a reason to panic in the US.
We spent the night arguing about US ICU beds being overrun when there are 15 total cases in this country for frick's sake. It's the pandemic version of wish casting, and it rightfully deserved to be called out as the stupidity it is.

Its contagious even before symptomatic and pretending otherwise is stupid.
Isolation 14 days of incoming traffic is the only "protection".

Many, many pages back there is one paper that summarized the patients (to date, so it's very old) who had been admitted to a hospital in Wuhan. That wouldn't tell you ethnicity, but would give ages.
abstract for age distribution of first 425 patients
The ship in Yokohama started this leg of its cruise with a diverse Passenger nationality. Google news now has a huge number of individual stories of individual passengers who are sick there and it does include some Brits, what seems to be a lot of Americans, and there are numbers of Japanese listed. Also the local based Quarantine officer.
Has anyone kept a list of links to scientific papers on here? That would be worth pinning at the top.
