Because of woke/anti-woke?

Because gambling regulations. Barstool used to advertise a "Can't Lose Parlay" and also Dave had claiming gambling losses in his bankruptcy

Yeah, and that had nothing to do with Disney

Barstool had a tv show on ESPN that was cancelled after one episode. I wouldn't be shocked if dumping Barstool was part of the deal.

Well no shite it was part of the deal. It isn't like Penn would run a Barstool Sportsbook and an ESPN sportsbook

What would be the point of keeping Barstool if they were rebranding to ESPN Bet? Penn isn’t in the podcast/content business

Good God you're stupid.

Disney would not do the deal unless they rid themselves of Barstool & Portnoy because them being controversial was making it difficult to get approval from the left woke PC states.

They could have still used Barstool for promotion etc, without using the Barstool sports book.

They gave back the company to Dave so that they now could go to the commie PC woke states and get approval.

Apparently you aren't that familiar with Portnoy/Barstool.

Anytime someone structures a sentence using “apparently” like this it always comes off bitchy in a lame way.

I only know Dave Portnoy from his YouTube pizza reviews. What's so controversial about him? He just seems like a normal guy.

Do you not realize their exposure with ESPN would be 100x that of Barstool regardless of getting approval in all legalized states? There would be no point to keeping sinking money into Barstool when you can put everything into ESPN, something that will actually be profitable

They sold it back for one dollar.

I'm pretty sure that publicity generated by Barstool would have been worth more than one dollar.

The woke states wouldn't approve PENN because they were associated with "racist/misogynist" Portnoy.

PENN CEO said so today on CNBC, although not as bluntly.

Any money generated would be going right back to salaries, leases, etc to keep Barstool afloat. Barstool was not profitable for Penn

This has been public knowledge all along even before the ESPN deal was a thing. This isn’t some breaking news

He didn't say which states.

PENN CEO said that PENN being associated with Barstool made it difficult to get into certain states, because Barstool/Portnoy are so controversial.

Bottom line, there were states that wouldn't approve PENN due to their association with BS/Portnoy.
Now that they are no longer associated with BS, and are now associated with super woke Disney, they will get the green light.

I was surprised that he was as Blunt as he was about it.

It wouldn’t be that radical of a thing, especially if there’s a reason to, like different customer bases, etc. But who knows what factors went into it.

Barstool Sportsbook is in:
quote:

Currently, you may place sports bets while inside the states of Pennsylvania, Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Colorado, Virginia, New Jersey, Tennessee, Arizona, Iowa, West Virginia, Louisiana, Kansas, Maryland, Ohio, or Massachusetts and play casino games while inside the states of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Michigan or West Virginia. If you are in any other state, the system will not allow you to place a wager.

that leaves:

AR,CT,MT,NV,NH,NY,OR,RI,DC,WY

I invested in PENN with the news they were getting it. It tanked hard.
