I’m at my company’s booth at OTC in Houston and at least 60% of the people here are just here to fill their 6 bags with pens and other goodies the companies give out. No affiliation with any O&G companies or anything. I’ve seen families of Chinese people arrive and split up and repeatedly hit the same booths over and over until exhibitors just put their stuff away. I saw one old Chinese guy try to take a small gasket ring and then laugh and act like he didn’t know what he was doing wrong when one of the booths employees told him he couldn’t do that. I don’t understand why you would pay to enter into one of these conferences just to steal pens haha. Unless there is some pen blackmarket I’m missing. Anyone else have experience with this?

Yes. I hit up every booth at a conference and take all I can. Twice, if they let me.

They're there to steal ideas/designs, not pens. Then pens are a front

I have a co-worker who goes to conventions and seminars for the sole purpose of filling his goody bag with pens, key rings and other shite.

OTC is more than just Oil and Gas affiliations.

Must be your first year

There are old ladies that do this at the Process analyzer show at the Lamar Dixon expo center. It’s not surprising people do it at the largest show in the country

I don't believe this. It isn't free to attend and you have to register. It's not like tourist families are going.

People still exhibit and go to that? The OTC has lost its appeal for many of us.

That’s where I get my pen supply for my Fortune 500 company. Saving the money of buying pens has been enough savings for my entire business model

I work for a company represented worldwide and we don’t even have a booth for it anymore. It always fell on the Houston distributors to set it up and they finally said frick it.
