I usually don’t like vigilante justice, but it seems this guy had a history and they caught him with child porn so I’m okay with it.

I'm more comfortable living in a society where people who murder pedophiles roam the streets, instead of pedophiles who rape 8 year old girls. Which do you prefer?

It's not an either/or. I can not want pedophiles on the street at the same time I don't want vigilante murderers on the street, even if they're fake pedophiles and fake vigilante murderers.

When the law fails people long enough and consistently enough, people will take the law into their own hands. This is the ultimate danger of being too lenient on crime - sure, the resulting lawlessness, generally, is bad but the lawlessness by otherwise God-fearing, decent people is tragic and laden with long-term consequences.
