You got some stats to back that up? I doubt there are enough parents pushing gender reassignment on their kids in a given year to equal the number of parents that sexually abuse their kids in a day. Or physically abuse. Or neglect. Or try to "cure" their homosexuality in horrible ways. etc, etc.

No because how would people be able to use the issue as an example of their unearned moral superiority?

The American College of Pediatricians is a small fringe group that promotes an interpretation of issues like sexuality, abortion, and family from a Judeo-Christian perspective. It has less than 200 members, from what I can tell. I wouldn't consider it an authority.

In fact, the ACP was founded in opposition to the American Association of Pediatrics, which has 60,000 members, and their decision to acknowledge that it's absolutely fine for same-sex couples to parent children. So yeah, the ACP has an obvious agenda and they aren't really a widely regarded medical authority.

The ACP doesn't independently offer any continuing education opportunities and it doesn't publish its own journal. The AAP does both.

The ACP has around 200 members. The AAP has 60,000 members, despite costing over twice as much for professional membership.

It should be obvious which is the real professional organization for pediatricians.

If anyone wants to read more about ACP, look here: LINK

I'm pointing out that the ACP is not an authority that should be trusted when it comes to pediatrics. They literally state, as part of their core values, that for work to be considered "good medical research" then it must be informed by morality. That's a pretty unscientific position to take.

Gender confusion =\= homosexuality.

To subscribe to gender confusion you have to accept there are significant objective gender roles, something old school feminist hated

In addition, the ACP’s claim that it is a legitimate medical organization is belied by its links to such extremist right-wing organizations as Focus on the Family, the Family Research Council, the National Association for Research and Therapy of Homosexuality, Positive Alternatives to Homosexuality, and the Medical Institute for Sexual Health.

This isn't true. You can accept that gender roles are subjective, normative cultural and social phenomena, and you can choose to live outside of those normative roles, or within them.

Really appears if this is a valid theory that it's trying to appeal to everyone.
We've had "Tomboys" for centuries.

Gender roles are human constructs

Why? I know you want to angle this as an appeal to religious dogma. But on its face, how is that so? Do they at least ordain something more concrete than that as a tenet?

Do you believe the same thing about the Hippocratic oath?

Why should the value or validity of scientific research be contingent on moral sense?

The Hippocratic Oath is about ethics, not science, so there is no analogy to be made there.

Nowhere in there did they say gender confusion is a mental disorder. It isn't.

However, patients that are gender confused have a higher suicide rate along with comorbid depression, more than likely from societal pressures.

However, from that statement gender confusion can be a fairly normal process of a child's life, and over 90% eventually accept their matched biological sex. The people that do not are not mentally ill, and they should be able to make their own decisions regarding their body. They are not freaks, just as much as anyone else who doesn't feel comfortable with oneself is not a freak.

Thank you for your time. Also to the guy who posted in here saying their pediatrician friend wouldn't help a child who feels confused about their identity, your friend is a shitty pediatrician.
