The PE is a glorified FE exam, anyway. Why not take it when the information is still fresh from college courses? Especially if you still have to wait the 4 years of experience, which I'm sure you have to prove like before.
Disagree. The problems are mostly problems/issues you would and should encounter in the course of your day to day duties as a practicing engineer.

We can agree to disagree, I've been wrong before. Including one day in April when I was wrong enough to not pass the PE.

Couldn't pass a glorified FE exam?

Because of that shitty 4 year gap!

Talked to a board member today and it will pass this month or Next and then will take 4-6 months after that to go into effect. So first on the year.
Just to make it clear, you will be able to take the test but not get the license. Still have to wait the 3 years, 4 months for that.

Because the new rule or because you will have 4 years by then? I thought we would be a couple months shy come april...?
Just need 3 years and 4 months by the application deadline of December 1st.
I'm actually in the process of trying to figure out if I'm somehow eligible to take it this October. I had co-op experience at LSU and Lapels could count that I believe. I doubt it will be enough though.
ETA: I don't know anything about this new rule stuff. This thread is the first I have heard of it.

Ok thanks. The lady at LAPELS seemed agitated to have to answer my question.

It's a full four to get licensed
The 3 years 4 months is just to be able to apply for exam

Correct. If you pass it early you have to go back and resubmit all your paperwork to get your license

For those that were wondering about the new rules coming down for the PE exam, i spoke to a member of the board today, essentially you will be allowed to take the test once you graduate and pass the FE. If you graduate in May the first test available will be in april.
This also goes for those that don't meet the experience requirement(from before) as by the time the new rule goes into place, it will be too late to register for the october exam.
You will be able to take the test but you will NOT be able to get the PE licence until you meet the experience requirements.
Also you do not have to have that experience under a current PE, it should be but it is not required and there are other standards you must meet.
hope this helps clear things up.

A potential employer questioned me about my interest in pursuing a PE, he's a PE and would be my mentor. I never took the FE. He asked if I thought I could pass it - you know I said sure. I graduated in 1997 in physics and in 2000 with an EE masters degree. He seemed to think it was still an option. I guess we'll see if it is if he offers me a job. Nutty shite. It would be for mechanical engineering and specifically fracture mechanics. No telling how all that shite would go.

LAPELS can count up to one year of it, but you have to have full time for it to count. So the 20 hours during the 4 month semester only count as two months. But the 3 month summer counts as 3 months, as does the one month Christmas break.
For example, I worked co-op from 2/10 until 8/11
So from 2/10-5/10 I get 1.5 months.
5/10-8/10 is 3 months.
9/10-12/10, 2 months.
12/10-1/11, 1 month.
1/11-5/11, 2 months.
5/11-8/11, 3 months.
The total give me 1.5 years of experience towards my PE, but I can only count a max of 1 year. So I only needed 3 after graduation instead of 4.

masters in engineering counts as a year correct?

To my knowledge, but I'm not positive since I don't have one of those
