First, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes brought the organization its first Super Bowl title in 50 years.

Now, his reach is expanding to the highest levels to another sport entirely — Major League Baseball.

On Tuesday, the Kansas City Royals announced that Mahomes is the newest member of its ownership group.

Mahomes’ interest in baseball makes sense as his father, Pat, spent 11 years in the big leagues while his godfather, LaTroy Hawkins, spent 21 years in MLB.

“I’m honored to become a part owner of the Kansas City Royals,” Mahomes said. “I love this city and the people of this great town. This opportunity allows me to deepen my roots in this community, which is something I’m excited to do.”

Fresh off his record-setting NFL contract, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is already putting his newfound wealth to use.

Mahomes has become the newest part owner of MLB's Kansas City Royals, according to a statement from the Royals.

"I'm honored to become a part owner of the Kansas City Royals," Mahomes said in a statement. "I love this city and the people of this great town. This opportunity allows me to deepen my roots in this community, which is something I'm excited to do."

Earlier this month, Mahomes signed a 10-year extension with the Chiefs that brought the value of his 12-year contact to as much as $503 million. The new deal was touted as "the largest contract in sports history." The megadeal came after Mahomes won the Super Bowl MVP Award for the Chiefs last season and was named NFL MVP for the 2018 season.

Now that's how you go from a millionaire to a billionaire.

I am honestly not sure why I thought this, but my first reaction was "He can't do that!" As if there would be some conflict of interest because they are in the same city.

That's a big league move. This kid doesn't give a frick and it's paid off handsomely for him so far. Keep chuckin.

I have always liked Mahomes dating back to his TTU days. Seems like a good guy. Also, how pissed off must the NFL higher ups be that he ended up in Kansas City and not New York or Los Angeles?

This is like when Jay Z "owned" the Nets but he really only had about a 2% stake in the team.

It’s insane what athletes get paid for a job that in the grand scheme of life is meaningless.

They generate tons of revenue. Would you rather they get paid less for their work and the already billionaire owners collect more?

Yeah. That's be my concern.
His stake might be really "small". So, maybe it's just for fun and to say "hey I part owned a team".

Am important rule in life that most people fail to understand: your paycheck reflects how replaceable you are, not the importance of your work. The harder it is to replace you, the more you get paid. The easier it is, the less you get paid. Nothing else really matters.

Yes it’s true that a garbage man provides a more important service than a football player, but they’re all replaceable. There’s not a human alive who can replace Patrick Mahomes, hence the billion dollar contract.
