What the hell does engineering have to do with meteorology?

It's all applied physics, but the details are different. It's why I've never claimed to be educated in meteorology.

My buddy was on the hurricane hunter flight... I believe he is the co-pilot in the video. I'm still waiting on confirmation.

Confirmation: it was him!!!!

Major to him and all on that flight!

Any chance she rebounds off the coast? The S into the E is really blowing up as the outflow really runs up into the mountains.

I'm not really sure what you mean. The actual center is wobbling all over the place (as with all systems) and the track is smoothed. So depending on the wobbling it may appear to "bounce" as it makes landfall. Also, it is known that the increased friction can make for some squirrelly movement right at landfall. Ultimately, the path will be determined by the trough diving in from California and the high over the Gulf.

That was kind of what I was getting at.

What's the rough timeline for this thing? Landfall, weakening/breaking up, making its way to US?

it will land in the early tonight. It will break up once it gets over the Mexican mountains. Some where in the south is likely to get a lot of rain, its nearly impossible to say where right now.

So, did anyone get a call from the Red Cross asking for money for Mexico yet?
