Patel is like the Hindi version of Smith or Jones and they tend to own a lot of real shitbag hotels like OYO, Scenic Motel, etc.
I think the deal with that immigrants get the green card / citizenship in part due to an investment of a certain size and it tends to be a hotel where they live on site and take care of it.
A number of these hotels tend to change hands often, in part to keep one step ahead of the law with regards to various violations by the people running them.

I can tell you any gas station taken over by Indians soon turns into a trash dump. Hotels aren’t much better. Dirty culture.
I try to avoid them as much as possible.

make it a felony to hire an illegal.
It's too bad the Internal Revenue Service ("IRS") allows millions of illegal immigrants to buy innocent taxpayers' social security numbers on the black market, in order to earn wages, after their green cards expire. Then, the IRS has the sheer audacity to help the identity thieves collect tax refunds on the ill gotten wages, causing refund delays and red tape for the legitimate American taxpayers of those social security numbers stolen. And, to add insult to injury, taxpayers also pay for identity thieves to have interpreters when they're dealing with the IRS agents.
It's so cataclysmic, because the media for the masses shows a lot of red herrings about this very serious issue.
Not taking thinking short-cuts, this goes back to Trump's administration too:

quote:My first job out of undergrad was with Unisys Corporation as an IT Consultant. The first project I was assigned was in Salt Lake City - I'm still here BTW - for a claims processor that did processing for Blue Cross Blue Shield. My first job at 22 was managing a team of Indian software testers. They all worked for Tata (India) and were no doubt hired because they were far cheaper than their American equivalents. They were all very respectful and essentially trained me to do my own job over the first six months. A few of us would go out occasionally and get 'drunkier than cootie brown' which was always fun. Never once did I have to ask anyone pick up their effort, be more exacting, etc.. I thought the rest of my career would be similar.
I worked for an Indian based IT company for 3 years. That company would lie, cheat, and steal from its clients and it’s employees. The higher management were absolute fricksticks to all of their subordinates. Very demeaning to each other.
That said, if you were on their level or above, extremely respectful, almost to a point of awkwardness.
I’m glad I don’t work for an Indian company anymore.

Half own hotels. The other half are doctors.

I've work 4 different hotel front desk jobs. Out of all 4 owners, they were all patels, only 2 of them were related, in any way.
Out of the 4, I only had 1 owner not using the hotel as a cash cow, to build a new hotel.
So what they do is buy a already existing hotel, like the best western in Gonzalez. As they start making profits, they start building a new hotel and stop taking care of the cash cow.
They put all the profits into the new hotel and literally run the old one into the ground. Then once the new hotel is built, they just sell the old one and have the new owners take care of the mess they created.
The best western was in such bad shape when they sold it, it's taken a year for them to fix it back up and it's still not completed yet.

It's interesting to see this thread running the gauntlet of opinions, good, bad, and mixed. Contradictions, agreeable.
It's almost as if a broad group of people is still made of individuals.

That’s incredibly similar to the philosophy they used to apply to buying houses in England. There’d be multiple families (usually 4-5) all living in whatever small house they could afford with each family essentially getting a room. Then they’d start saving for the next bigger house while never doing any repairs or maintenance on where they all lived. Next house would be a little bigger and they’d start all over again all saving for the next bigger house again. I could never figure out why they didn’t save and keep the first house in good shape and designate it as the residence for one of the families while the rest moved on while still pooling all their funds.

I'm in the process of some major life insurance on some Patels. All own hotels and are rich as shite. Way to go!
