Girl I went out with a few times was her personal assistant when she went there. Went to see her a little while back and said she was in pretty bad shape, she told me her dog had gained like 20 pounds bc she had always given it scraps of steak. She was doing it over and over again bc she didn't remember doing it before. Sad

So she doesn't remember feeding the dog steak scraps but apparently she is just standing in the kitchen constantly cooking steaks?

What level of OT Baller status is that when you can sit in your kitchen all day cooking steaks and have no idea you're doing it?

it really is sad because at 64, she had another 10-15 years left in her career. Imagine the records she could have put up.

Much better. There are no equivalents in men's sports for her and Geno Auriemma, maybe John wooden.

Pat Summit had 8 NCAA championships over 22 seasons. John Wooden had 10 over 12 seasons. She was great but he was the goat.

Ole Bear had 6 in 25 years. But two of those he lost the bowl game, and another year he lost in the regular season to the team they shared the title with. So let's just call it 3 championships in 25 years. What a goat

The thread title is pretty fricking shitty.

Pat Summit is a fricking phenomenal, strong-willed woman. Tennessee (and the US) is losing a great one. Phenomenal leader and motivator. We need more people (men and women) to resemble Pat:

And less of this bullshite:

Okay, but thats women's basketball.....and she built up a women's basketball program....in KNOXVILLE, Tenn. John Wooden built up a men's basketball program in one of the biggest cities in the country.

The best female basketball players have many more reasons to not pursue basketball than the best male players.

She has somebody cooking for her but nobody says anything when she gives half of every meal to her dog.

Yep, and she is the best ever at that. I was responding to the poster that said she had accomplished more than John Wooden. She did not.

The OP called it.

Summit dies

quote:

Pat Summitt, who won eight national championships as head coach of the University of Tennessee women’s basketball team and had more wins than any NCAA college basketball coach in history when she was forced to retire at age 59 because of a diagnosis of early-onset Alzheimer’s disease, died June 28 at a senior living home in Knoxville. She was 64.

She became head coach at age 22 (!) and built the program and women's basketball generally from the ground up. There have been other great coaches but none greater IMHO.
