How many fatalities are associated with that besides their CEO who accidentally backed off a cliff?

Ferry boat is surprising

It isn’t really. First world ferry systems like the Washington State Ferry system sell their old ferries to third world countries. Not only are they older boats, they typically aren’t well maintained and are packed to the rafters and beyond with passengers well above safe capacity. And then when the ferry inevitably goes down, hundreds likely perish.

Also, they don’t really travel all that far, so it’s a lot of ferry rides to get to the billion passenger miles.

I used to love riding my motorcycle, it was so much fun. I wouldn't ride one today with all the distracted driving.

I live by the largest ferry system in the country. I can’t think of any ferry related casualties to ferry passengers. There have been suicides, heart attacks, etc., but they shouldn’t count against the ferry.

When was the last large casualty ferry event in the US? When was the last any casualty event?

They don’t travel far, but travel with many passengers. The Washington State Ferries typically carries over 20,000,000 people annually.

We’ve never had a ferry that has even come close to sinking” - spokesperson for Washington State Ferries, the nation’s largest ferry system

I bet over the past 25 years ferries in the US are safer than commercial air travel.

Ferry should be disqualified. It’s the drowning that kills people not the ferry. More people can’t swim than you realize.

Deaths per passenger miles? Strange way to measure it.

No inclusion of non-fatal but possibly serious injuries.

What about accidents per travel hour? Or accidents per trip, which is how people intuit the risk of danger associated with a travel method.

Every indication I’ve seen is that bikers are trying to die, so I’m not surprised

Half of all MC fatalities involve alcohol.

And the other half usually involve what would be a simple fender bender between cars but a fatality on a MC. Had a guy out here die recently when a garbage truck backed out from behind a wall into a side street and Guy on the MC tried to stop but ran into doing about 35 mph. Dead on the spot. I understand the notion keep your head on a swivel but sometimes it doesn't matter when riding a MC. My point dangerous almost anytime riding a MC especially in the City. Told my son i better never see him on a motor cycle
