That’s hardly a collapse. Still dangerous though. A few years ago before they resurfaced the Cabildo, large chunks of the facade were falling off. One fell two feet from me—it was the size of a soccer ball. I’m sure it would’ve killed someone if they were directly hit by it.

Maybe they have buildings falling down too.
LaToya the Destroya going to see the best way to deal with it.
They probably just put their fire chief as spokesman with all the updates.

picture of the 600 block

What you don't see is freestanding buildings. In that aged brick (stucco faced), the buildings share walls. Also what we found is that every bit of cement between the bricks needs to be tuck pointed because the 200 year old lime and something mix can be scraped out with a screwdriver (or often with a bare hand.) Lose one part of a wall, and that's a key that the whole facade is of questionable strength.

I think this is a catacorner view of 600 Toulouse, which would be upriver side of Toulouse

I mean, clearly not hard rock style drama but having bricks falling multiple stories to the sidewalk in the FQ during a saints playoff weekend could have ended much worse.

I imagine one of those clocking a tourist in the head waiting to cross the street could’ve done some damage

That second link... that building is tilted AF. You can stand on the corner, looking straight up and see just how out of whack it is.

This is all of the building that collapsed. Just some brick. That would be troublesome to pedestrians and windshields.

I agree, but it will be. When the news crew saw me slide past the barricades, they followed to get their live shot.
