What are the odds this is the fault of a subcontractor who was a "forced hire" to keep the right people happy? Because there are no major projects in this city where that does not happen.

I bet you're praying for this to be true.

Looks like somebody skipped a step on the checklist.

Not really because this sucks mostly for those hurt or killed and then for the city. I would far rather thisnot have happened at all.

All of y’all are dumb if you think this is not covered by insurance.

One rescued from collapse zone so far.
You can see that one guy trying to get inside.
Damn that's awful.

And you’re dumb if you don’t think someone’s premiums are about to skyrocket, if they’re insurable at all

This is where you go with your narrative? Who knows what the investigation will show, but can EMS attend to the wounded before you bring up your unsubstantiated theory.

Insurance will certainly fight tooth and nail to deny coverage. Lawyers bout to get paid.

Insurance is not unlimited....
Since there are injuries and fatalities and a pretty expensive structure that is heavily damaged the costs will be very high.
Keep in mind there will be rescue operations immediately, then forensics engineering, demolition operations, and ultimately reconstruction.
It’s a pretty long and expensive road.

Question for Engineering folks...How do you even begin going in to clean this up with the crane looking like it is ready to go? I would guess it is a very slow and excruciating process for safety readons.

There will also be a ton of nuisance suits from people in the area claiming they breathed in the dust.

Maybe. HR may wash their hands of it

That will certainly be challenging.
It’s obvious the support/attachment structure for that crane was part of the damaged area.
They will need a crane to do a lot of the demo.
Unless they can verify or shore up the one that is standing I would guess they may have to erect another crane just to demo the existing one and demo the partially collapsed portion of the structure.
Regardless, it is a shite sandwich with no easy fix.

Two hotels under construction in New Orleans in a year with structural issues. Is that a regular thing?
Posted on 10/12/19 at 11:30 am to AndyCBR
If it’s a total teardown, there might be a chance they implode it
Posted on 10/12/19 at 11:31 am to AndyCBR
Deep South has a big arse crane in south La that can handle it

Unsubstantiated that this is a structural issue
