To be honest using a crane is likely more dangerous than imploding them

I don’t think anyone wants to put another crane anywhere near the crane in question

How much damage will canal or rampart sustain when 50 tons of steel come crashing down?

Our drains there will be sent back 300 yrs.

We fricked.

Yeah they said in the press conference today some of the folks who did demo post 9/11 in NY were involved.

Sequencing shape charges to make this thing fall is their bag.

I'm not saying its going to go well but it seems they have the right people for the job.

The mega crane solution would take too long and put too many men and machines at risk. The reports are the cranes are listing more and more every day so the demo is on their terms or mother nature.

That's what I'm wondering. Yeah, the whole crane is giant and heavy, but for most of it, its mass is kind of spread out by the space frame structure.

That counterweight, though, is a dense and concentrated mass. It's gonna frick up whatever it lands on. I want good footage of that thing trying to become one with the planet.

If I had to guess CDI (Controlled Demolition Inc.) is involved.

They are the go to for sketchy demo stuff.

I don't have any sources but those cats know more about explosive demo than anyone.

It really is an amazing challenge but much better than risking a mega crawler

They’re got to thread the needle between hitting the remaining steel structure (and knocking it down) and pushing it towards the Saenger

At this time, I think it’s just the cranes.

Anyone think we should pay the bums under Claiborne to try and catch the cranes. Give them $500 cash, some heroin and tell them to catch the falling booms?

Kill two birds with one stone.

So considering their current state, that would put them in the mid 1500s.

Not in commercial construction. Drywall guys hang the drywall. Painters tape, float, finish, and paint.

I've built all over the country and that's mainly the case in the south and a few other states. Most of the states everywhere else in the country, the drywall sub also tapes/floats and the painters just do minor touch up/sanding and the painting.

When drywall became more widely used after WWII along with metal studs and walls were getting away from lath and plaster the unions dictated the split in most places. Painters unions wanted the taping and floating and the Carpenters unions got the framing and hanging. The lathers eventually joined the carpenters union and most lathers could frame with metal studs as well as channel iron. It worked out well because the painters couldn’t bitch about the finish since they were responsible for it.

This is the truth. I can't tell you how many painters I have had bitch about the framing and drywall when they have spread the mud so thick they need a belt sander to get it down.

I think plaster and lath stayed around much longer in Northern states and that's how drywall guys ended up taping and floating also.

Anyone going to the demolition viewing? I know they’re saying late afternoon. Anyone know what time? Wouldn’t surprise me if it’s earlier and unannounced since they don’t want people to gather.

Several of the live feeds seem to be down this morning. Anyone have a good one that's working?

ETA: Nvm I'm an idiot.
