You think so huh? How long do you think their business interruption insurance (if they have it) will carry these companies thru? The brand new HI New Orleans International Hostel's is sitting on a brand new $32 million dollar loan. The General Manager said on the news last night that the hostel is all but headed for bankruptcy. I'm telling you now there isn't enough insurance to cover all of the business losses due to this catastrophic collapse.
If they are covered then they are covered.
And there is more than one insurance company, I doubt one company insured everyone involved, but if they did they would have to provide insurance to the point they went broke.
But sure some could go broke waiting on their check, that’s common sense. I should have been more clear about that.

I would have thought Citadel would have more of a public face here, leading this situation, after all, it is their build.
Good thing you are not their attorney, their attorneys told them to shut up with a quickness

This question may be off topic but I'm curious as to what was on this site before the repurpose for the new hotel.
Nothing.
Before that? A Woolworth's.

If they can’t shore the rubble and the cranes are going to come down anyway. At what point do they just do an implosion on the rest of the carcass?
Can they control fall the cranes to fall into the rest of the building?
At this point no one is going to sign off that any of the remaining parts of the building are salvageable and or structurally sound.

Think about all of the hotels which are located in the Evacuation Street Closure area. There are a lot of hotels located in street closure zone that will be impacted by this not to mention all of the apartment/condos that are in the closure zone like Annex NOLA.
The only good thing from this is that it will probably force Beauty & More and the Rainbow Shops out of Canal Street so when this is all finished in 20 years we will have new upscale businesses operating there.

I think you meant to say "t-shirt shops owned by Motawi"

Preventing the owner from speaking in public and taking control of a situation that is ultimately his responsibility?
Yes, damn attorneys. There is no reason for them to hide like this.

What other hotels are closed right now right by there?

The owner and/or contractor are not equipped to deal with this situation. They would only be able to repeat what the mayor and fire chief have said: That experts are coming from around the world to determine how to proceed.
Suppose they did come forward and gave their assessment of the building. Would anyone trust them at this point? A week ago they would've said the job is going great!
Also, they would be completely harassed by the media.

Right... but I don't understand why the mayor / fire chief are out front here, and not the owner/contractor.

What happens here when no entity involved in this actually has the assets to fix it? It’s sort of an interesting quandary we may have ourselves in with this debacle.
been thinking about that since the crash, just didn't want to "go there" when we didn't even have a clue if people had died yet

It's a debacle. A shite ton of subs have lien rights now and unless the surety/insurers can make some of them whole you probably couldn't even sell the land

The bank is going to be left owning a piece of land on Canal S
In the end, this site will have everything above the parking garage demolished and will be a working parking garage and nothing more.

regards owner/contractor out front
owner is llc for this property only
contractor does about 35-40 million dollars worth of project a year, several other active projects on it books that will be shutdown. llc
architect looks like a pop and son small firm llc
maybe the city will go after the steel supplier if it has assets
no body wants attention. there is no upside

The condition of the building makes it a public safety concern. If the owner and/or contractor were to speak publicly, they would get barraged with questions like :
"What was the cause of the collapse?!?"
"Did the building show signs of failure before the collapse?!?"
All questions they clearly can't answer because it is too soon to know and there will be years of litigation on this and they are not going to admit fault in an interview.
