If it were me I would be buying the biggest house I can find in Florida or Texas becoming a resident tomorrow there and filing for bankruptcy protection a couple of weeks later.
How does that really help? The primary residence is protected, not the value of the house. You'd basically be broke in a house you couldn't afford to keep up and the instant you sell it, the cash from the sale gets seized to settle the inevitable judgments from the lawsuits. Also, aren't those both high property tax states because there's no income tax? You'd have to find some way to pay those so the state doesn't take your house instead of the plaintiffs.

I don't know this man's legal status. He may have had a work visa. But if he didn't and was here illegally, I hope you don't think that would preclude him from working for a union shop.

in addition to the liability insurance issue, who pays for the work going forward. hard rock hotel is likely bankrupted by this event, along with the engineering company, and construction company. suppliers to the site probably want cash on delivery starting last Sunday. banks holding the construction financing notes will be freaking out looking for sufficient cover. management staffs for the three groups will disappear, making failure evaluations tedious. hopefully the mayor has a game plan

Earlier in the thread it was mentioned about bonds possibly being in place. Also some other methods such as the city taking some control then holding the project as collateral for their share.

In those two states the primary residence is protected and shielded from creditors. Remember OJ or all the execs from Enron all moved to these two states to protect themselves individually. They all bought huge estates and sold them after the bankruptcy.

quote:douchebag got his panties all wadded up when I told him his idea of just getting a crane to take it down sucks. Can major mobile cranes get up there, probably. Can they do it in a day or 2, no. Will the owner of the crane let it get set up next to a building about to fall.....you tell me.
Just trying to say that yall are saying the same thing. Your wording was wonky and he didn't view it as you intended.

Keep an eye on the cranes this morning because a strong cold front is coming through the city with high winds and strong rain. High likelihood at least one of the cranes goes down today.

I think one of Turners Demag’s can reach that and I don’t think getting it in would be a problem. Weight wise on the street may be an issue but fixing a street is cheaper than rebuilding the Saenger.
It's not just damaging the street that's the issue.
If the ground fails below the crane then you run the risk of the damaged crane and the "rescue" crane falling.

Says the guy who uses a construction catastrophe to take a cheap shot at the city..... and FTR, he compared buildings collapsing to sports teams collapsing, he made no mention of anyone dying

The guy who comes into a thread to shite on the city for a construction failure wants to get on his high horse.

don't be so defensive about your shite town with its shite infrastructure. the city essentially committed two murders with its inability to do something as simple as build a hotel properly and you are focused on semantics. sad.

How is this the city’s fault? This is 100% developer and contractor. The city trusted licensed professionals to do their job. You think city planning is running design calculations?
