Count 1……2…..

“Don’t let me get to 3”

Where do you think it went wrong for these parents?

Is the countdown before or after the idle threats?

It didn’t go wrong they just aren’t willing to follow through with their threats.

Never make a threat you aren’t willing or can’t follow through on.

I was at dinner with a friend and our two kids were playing, I gave them a boundary line they couldn’t cross, I told my kid the first time he crosses it the car he was playing with is going away. Their kid was crossing it constantly and they kept having to go get them and “threaten them” with no follow through. My son saw the other kid crossing so much he finally ran across. I didn’t threaten just calmly got him and explained that he now lost his car for the night. He got real upset and cried for about 30 seconds then went back and played, never crossed again.

I count down with my 6yo sometimes, but he gets that arse busted when I hit zero.

I only got to zero a few times before he understood.

I count 1,2,3 and all it takes is for me to say 1 because he knows he gets his arse whipped if I get to three.

My Dad raised me with a belt and if I wasn’t respectful or listen, my arse learned quick. My boy will know the same and respect others how he wants to be respected.

I got my boys trained. All I have to do is talk to them in a loud aggressive voice and they snap in line. They know I don't f around. I don't have to count.

It’s a common thing. There’s even a book about it.

Usually when I am talking my kid knows I aint mad yet.

Its when I dont say anything and just look at them like this:

This is the real power. No words. Just a stare-off.

It’s called “The Belt!!!”.. the sound of it coming out of the belt loops is way more effective!!!

Lucky kids, mine don’t get a count. They just get their arse whipped.

Edit: to be fair, my kids do ignore me(more than I remember ignoring my parents). Threatening an arse whipping gets their attention. Actually whipping their asses straightens them out. I always make an effort to make it a teachable moment and try to avoid whipping them if I’m super pissed at them. I do my best to keep corporal punishment strictly business.

I think I still have knots on my head from my dad's LSU class ring. I prefer psychological torture for my kids.

My kids knew that if they weren’t moving by 2, there wasn’t going to be a 3.
