Parents who are significantly less intelligent than their young children

Was getting gas at Costco just now and I heard an exchange.
There was a very beaten-down beta male dad with his wife and two young children. The dad gets out to pump gas and then the mom starts yelling at all the kids to get out.
The reason they had to get out? She would not allow them to stay in the vehicle while gas was being pumped.
One of the younger boys says, "why do we have to get out of the vehicle while he pumps gas?"
The mom says because it's dangerous.
The kid, displaying way more intelligence than his mother, says, "that doesn't make any sense."
Now, I realize she was probably concerned about the car exploding, but the chances of that happening vs her kids getting run over because she forced them into a parking lot are questionable.
In short, props to you little man, for refusing to take the foolish advice of an unruly woman at face value.

I’m guessing she saw a fake post about exploding cars on Facebook.

It’s not even questionable.

The car exploding thing is a farce. Gasoline these days is so watered down you can’t hardly even smell the fumes. I don’t even turn my truck off when I fill up

that's probably safer than turning the engine off, and always has been, people don't really seem to understand how all of that works

But when you pump gas with the engine running it never gets fully full

if you're pumping gas that is cheaper than the previous fill up you save more because you're burning out the expensive gas and filling up with the cheaper stuff, then when you get in the vehicle and go a minimum of 130mph, you're practically manufacturing gas
