I agree.
My oldest went the Military route, NG, and between that and state programs like TN Promise his school was paid for.
My youngest could have done the same, but insisted on an out of state school for athletics. Even against our advice so she did loans. But she did have great academic and athletic scholarships and the room/board/food was the most expensive. Her scholarships covered tuition and a little more.
Sophmore year she moved off campus and that helped a ton. We also helped her when she needed it as Classes and Athletics took up most of the time. She has a little SL debt, but isn’t horrible and now working for someone who will pay it back when she finishes out her contract.

Does she play a sport? Just asking because I don’t know any kids that have gone to Centenary that weren’t there for sports.
Why would a kid go there, they’re enrollment is like 500 kids?

Never said there wasn’t support but it wasn’t financial.
ETA: it can be done, parents just have to quit coddling their kids. Life’s hard, even more when you’re stupid.

It's not F them kids. Its teach them independence. Most us in LA are already a $100K+ in on our kids education before college.
I didn't say parents shouldn't help their kids or pay for college if they want to. I'm saying the kids aren't entitled to have their parents pay for college and there shouldn't be an expectation that parents pay for college.
I feel most strongly about this when the conversation comes up about means testing TOPS or other scholarship programs. How can you means test a non working (career) independent adult based on parent's income. In my opinion that's BS.

I can afford to help my kids. Key word is help. They pull some of the weight as well.

You aren’t wrong if you can do that. Many can’t do that. It is what it is.

My parents helped when they could (gas, groceries, etc.) but it was never expected.
ETA: I did give my oldest what I had in the Post 9/11 GI Bill. I did help somewhat.
