Parents, how often do you take your kids to the pediatrician?

My son just turned 11 and needs 2 vaccines before school starts. I called the doctor's office to bring him in and they said they will not give them unless he's had a wellness visit within the last year. They said it's been 5 years since his last check-up.
I just always figured if there is nothing wrong with him, why bring him to the doctor? Also, is there anywhere else I can bring him for vaccines in Lafayette? They could have done the shots today, but they don't have a wellness appointment until August 3. It's a damn racket.

They won't give him a vaccine to keep him well because they haven't verified that he's well? Seems like an odd situation.

Every month for the first 6 months... then 9... then a year... then 18 months.
At that point, yearly. 2, 3, 4, etc.

Saw someone yesterday who needed immunizations for college and hadn't seen us in 3 years.
Checked him out and gave them.
That office has a stupid policy.

Free is a relative term. See how "free" it is when insurance premiums keep going up because of unnecessary trips to the dr.

Wellness and vaccine visits the first year, then just vaccines and actual medical treatment.
