Free is a relative term. See how "free" it is when insurance premiums keep going up because of unnecessary trips to the dr.
Well visits are seen as prevent medicine to save insurance companies money down the road. Most encourage well visits.

After they're 1, once a year for a well visit.

Crappy policy. Ought to be able to do wellness/vaccines same day. We take our kids to the doctor every year, but in no way is it entirely necessary.

They said it's been 5 years since his last check-up.
So he hasn't seen a doctor since he was 6??
I mean....as a kid we didn't go to doctor much unless we were sick. But...my parents were pretty poor with no health insurance. If you have health insurance and are already paying for it.....why not utilize it and bring your child in for well child check ups?

Yes, he's been to the doctor. But only when sick or injured. I usually just bring him to the walk-in clinic for stitches, cough, flu, etc.

We only take our's when she is sick.
It seems like that happens more than once a year, but that's still all we do.

they do vaccines at wellness visits if they are needed. Schedule your wellness visit and get it done in that day.
My child goes for wellness visits at the recommended times.
Although I have seen a specialist myself and had blood work for lipids and what not there, I have not been to a PCP for a "checkup" in at least 25 years.

My wife and I have our first who is 8 days old currently. While talking about that kind of stuff she was like " yeah me and my siblings had had the same pediatrician for 18 years each" I was like wtf do you mean? I honestly had no idea you were supposed to go to a pediatrician once a year every year till 18. fricking waste of god damn time. No need to go if you aren't sick. I Can NEVER remember going to the doctor just to go for a wellness visit. frick that.
But I guess maybe I didn't go because I took yearly physicals at the school for sports. So maybe that's why I never went. I don't know

So 30-45 minutes out of the 525,949 minutes in a year.... the same 30-45 minutes that is much shorter than the amount of time most people watch tv each day... to touch base with your child's doctor so they can make sure your child's health is ok is a waste of time to you?
