Is this SOP in law enforcement?
Cops for the most part are not the problem. It's the DA's office who lessen or outright dismiss charges.

No one arrested for simple burglary of an inhabited dwelling, or even unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling, is getting a bond set within an hour, much less make it and get released, in Baton Rouge. That’s a cop who didn’t feel like writing a report.
Was the intruder a handy man? What kind of cop offers to let a perp repair his own damage.

That guy is taking a big risk that whomever opens a door and see a stranger in their house doesn’t start blasting.

And Baton Rouge wonders why it’s such a shithole. If cops are performing their duties like this, no fricking wonder!

Smart move. Sounds like you're one of the few that actually knows the law.
If they're outside your house, you can't "legally" walk outside and shoot them.

TLDR
Baton Rouge/Slapdick LA is for losers and meth heads. Who knew?

I believe none of this happened.

I once had a drunk guy come into my house at 3 am and it was really surreal. I heard the door open and opened my bedroom door and saw a man walking through my kitchen. I was in such shock, but said, "hey man" to him and quickly shut my door. I knew he saw me, so I was trying to play it cool. I had a good idea he was meaning to go to my neighbor's house. I peaked out later and saw him crashing out on my sofa in the living room. I went next door and asked my neighbors if this was their friend and to come get him.
When they came in my house to get him they had to wake him up and explain he was at the wrong house. On his way out of my house he said, "I could have been shot!"

Well he doesn’t want to have a loaded gun accessible where kids can find it. And it was like 3am when the guy got in so it was dark. The idea is a deterrent. They are older and aren’t going to beat anyone with a baseball bat
Terrible idea. Your dad is asking to get killed presenting an unloaded gun at an intruder. Would be much better off to have no weapon than to point a gun at a burglar and just hope he doesn't have one and shoot back

I would have hesitated slightly to check to make sure he was standing in a part of the house where blood could have been easily cleaned, then wasted that mutherfricker.

He probably had just rubbed one out, so of course he had to wash his hands.

yep, don't pull out the hardware unless you intend to use for what it's for

Yea, is the cop going to sit there while he repairs it? They want to give the guy who commits breaking and entering regularly access to the property?

How would he only be in there for an hour? There are plenty people in EBR jail for similar charges who have been waiting for trial or a plea deal for months.
Posted on 12/9/25 at 4:47 pm to Saucey McFlossy
I want to know what cop told you that bc that’s a fricking problem. That’s a lazy cop that doesn’t want to do his job.. they guy would be in jail for more than hour but he’d also be out of your area for the short term at least. He’d have more charges stacked which would increase the possibility, slight as it may be, that he’d spend some time in jail..
Posted on 12/9/25 at 4:51 pm to Saucey McFlossy
Why wasn’t the offense reported on the day of the burglary? If the offense is reported (documented in the legal system) then when officers apprehended him, just take him to jail and complete an arrest report on the offense report from the date of occurrence. Sounds like BRPD is incompetent.
