Enforcing arbitrary bedtimes and routines is frickin stupid, selfish, and has ZERO positive impact on the child's development.
I mean, it’s not the worst take on TD today, but it’s pretty close.

Damn. It’s still light out at 7:30 certain times of the year

My neighbor probably hates us. My girls (6 and 4) are out in the backyard some nights close to 7:30 and she has her two girls (5 and 3) in bed by then

You must not have spent enough time in the Afghanistan, Hurricane or Eviction threads today.

10 and 16, single dad, so trashy
10’s bedtime is 9. He typically has free time 8-9, and manages getting to bed on time on his own. If he slips and I catch him up 5 minutes late, it’s 8:55 the next night. Keeps him accountable and it works for us.
16 manages her own bedtime mostly. She loses that privilege if she doesn’t get herself up and ready daily on her own, or if grades slip. Keeps her accountable and works for us.
My bedtime is sometime after theirs and entirely too late.
Weekends we shift it back a few hours.

7:30 bed time is strict? What are you raising? Convicts?

7:30 bedtime for most kids over 3-4 years old is insane.

Gotta put foil on their windows almost
But I guess some parents get up at 4:30am. We do not.

We start bedtime routine at 7. Bath, books, bed.
The almost 2 year old is usually put down between 7:30-7:45.
The 6 year old is “in bed” by 8, but can stay up until 8:30 and play, read, do whatever that isn’t a screen if he wants. Do a movie night about once every 2 weeks on a weekend night, he is up until 9:30-10.

Strict, maybe depending on how hard you enforce it. It's definitely impractical for a lot of families and kids.

Kids are 9 & 11. School nights I try to get them in bed by 8:30, but it’s usually 9 or a little after.

Our almost 7 year old has a 7 PM bed time.
She can keep her lamp on and read as late as she wants, but it's usually out by 8.
Her school STARTS at 7:15, so we're no bullshite in the mornings.

7:30 seems really early for the older two. The earliest mandatory bedtime we had when our oldest was that age was 8:30p.
My 1 year old refuses to stay up past 6:30p and sleeps 12 hours. I appreciate that he’s a good sleeper now, but it’s really inconvenient to have him go to bed so early.
If having your older kids go to bed at 7:30 is causing them to be super grouchy when you need/want them to stay up a little later on weekends, it seems like it would be a win-win deal to move bedtime to 8pm so they adjust.

I know I'm in the minority, but this seems reasonable. School stats at 7:15, wake up at 6:15 at the latest, She's a kid so she needs about 10 hours. In bed by 7, read until 8 and get a good night's rest.
I know for many people it's not the way it's done, but someone mentioned not eating dinner until 7:30. I just don't get it, man. If I'm not done with food for the night by 7 as a 28 year old I've fricked up my entire night.

My kids get up at 6 on school days which means 10.5 hours of sleep. It’s recommended they get 10-12 hours.

We did 8:30 when they started school, any earlier and they are up to early in the morning before school. Doesn't make much sense to me for the kids to be up from 5-6am and asleep from 7:30-8:30pm??? We pushed it back to 9 and then 9:30 as they get older. My oldest would be a zombie in the morning if he didn't go to bed at 9:30. I don't know how he does it, he just goes to sleep like he has an off button.
I don't even think our kids had regular bedtimes before they started school??? They went to sleep when they went to sleep, we used their natural pattern instead of forcing something on them. They slept pretty regular, I just don't remember the times because that wasn't really a focus. They both started with Pre-K so they started school at young ages.

Our daughter is 3 and our son is 1 and they both go to bed at 8pm. Our daughter reads a book (we read it to her) so she is really 8:15.

Yes, that’s reasonable. I think the focus should be on the amount of sleep as opposed to bedtime.

Two girls- 6&3. In bed between 8 and 8:30. Older one doesn’t usually fall asleep until after she’s come out of her room at least 3 times and it’s almost 10:00.
