nice edit taking out about how you think the dad was a pussy for not being able to wrestle his kid away from an alligator

but gotta say I agree with a lot of what she says
I love her general theme to support instead of just blindly shaming.

But to say back then we did one thing and now another is just silly IMO. The difference is back then we didn't have social media for us all to see everyone in blame mode, but I'm certain it was there.

An animal, known to be native to the area taking out an unknowing kid. At some point the parents have to be a least a tad bit aware

So, if you have kids you will never allow them to set foot in a pool of murky water?

You can get killed by mosquitos, snakes, bears, dogs, gators, people...where do you draw your lines?

I put it back in there.

Sorry, but if I have a kid getting taken by any animal, I'm dying before I let that animal just get away with it.

I never want to have kids so I'll never have to worry about it.

1 - you are not stronger than an alligator

2- you cannot swim faster than an alligator

so what would you do? the alligator grabs the kid and turns around and swims away

you just keep swimming after it till you drown?

Ok, that explains quite a bit.

I'm at least trying, man, I'll tell you that.

ETA: I can understand not believing this if you haven't been in a situation to kill an animal before with your hands, but I've killed a somewhat big animal (rottweiler) before that was attacking my sister with my hands and a pocket knife that I have on me at all times.

An alligator obviously is different, but I'm not going to cower at any animal if it's got someone I feel for.

The family was relaxing on the shore in a play area when Lane SOMEHOW ended up in the water,

The scene unfolded in the dark, about 25 feet from a light.

So the kid "somehow" ended up in the water.
Oh and it was dark, about 25 ft from a light.

I don't know about y'all, but I'm not letting my 2 yr old "somehow" wander off into the water in the dark. A 7 or 8 yr old? Don't need to keep as vigilant a watch, but a 2 yr old? Nope, they're with me.

BTW, every fricking parent and I mean every one, has lost a child somewhere at sometime

Mine's close to, but not 7 yet. Never lost him though. Came close one time, he decided to try to play hide and seek in a department store. Ole dad, being the crafty bugger he is, just hit the deck, saw those tiny feet running away, and found him before having to alert the staff. I could see how others can lose children though, especially with multiple chirrens. Speaking of Disney, we pass from time to time by the lost children stations to see if any good one's are there, but it's mostly other parent's refuse.

Looking at the pictures of that area and understanding how to use Google, it sure wouldn't be that pool of murky water.

Do you have kids? Do they ever get within a couple feet from you?

The helicopter parents of today are a different breed though. Junior isn't allowed outside of their house alone but these same parents will bring the kid to a restaurant or a store and allow them to run amok while they ignore them. It's a selective helicopter parenting.
