I have seen an increase of panhandlers in the Houma area which is out of normal in this area. I know New Orleans has them on a more wide spread basis like at off ramps.

Last week, I saw a whole family: a baw, a bawette, and even young babybaw at an intersection by the twin spans.

Is there that much money in panhandling or are we that bad as a society that we cannot do enough to prevent this, or are individuals who are panhandling just lack social skills to keep themselves off the street?

Note: I do not feed panhandlers money, but would rather give them food.

Probably not. But there are no bills or expenses. And in nola they basically give you free "housing".

I don’t give those frickers shite. Most of the ones in the big cities are part of a group that pools money and splits it up. They move around every week or so to different spots so people don’t see the same faces everyday.

my life has gotten so much better since i adopted the blanket "sorry brah, i only carry plastic" philosophy

don't even let them talk to me. just say it as they approach

one person told me he goes up to them as they approach and asks them if they have any spare change. i wish i had the balls to try that

Ive confirmed this with a former cop for BR. Drive by the college/corporate intersection. Every day there is a single panhandler there and its always someone new. If that is such a hotspot you wouldnt see a new one each day.

They are dropped off by someone who takes a cut of their daily haul. shite one of them off college drives and parks his car at walmart.

It's getting pretty bad in BR too. I see them at all major intersections especially on/off Siegen. They hold up traffic too.

Just make it illegal. It’s a public safety issue.

I've read several times, those frickers put about $800 a day in there pocket. Think about that.

~$1.60/minute at eight hours.

You know what else has gotten out of hand? Tipping expectations at restaurants.

I wonder why there are very few panhandlers in East Jefferson?

I seriously doubt that. If so, sign me up. I work remotely and that would be a nice bonus as I sit there.
