True. The norm, much like street corner drug dealing, is that it probably pays less than minimum wage when accounting for all hours spent. If it was as lucrative on the average as some people claim, the homeless would get crowded out.
We’re also becoming much more of a cashless society. I can go months without a single piece of paper currency in my wallet or coin in my pocket, and I’d wager that’s becoming more normal. So there’s a chance that the reason we see more people panhandling is that the supply is less than before, causing society’s takers to begin their first lesson of capitalism - if you’re going to compete, you’d better do it sooner than the other guy or do it better.

I've seen where there will be a car loaded with people, and they will be dropped off at interstate ramps to do it. They will literally get out of the car with their sign already in hand.
What's sad is that there are people who genuinely need help, and there are people who just prey on people's sympathy and compassion.

Nurse at BR general told me at Mid City she admitted a panhandler who was desperate to be discharged, "because I make $1500 a day at that spot and someone else will get it if I'm in the hospital for 3 days!"
You realize at $1500 per day, that person would bring home $375,000 if they did it 5 days a week for a year and that's even taking off 2 weeks for vacation

I have seen an increase of panhandlers in the Houma area which is out of normal in this area
How do you expect them to finance their Bayou Bridge protest?

Right. He’a lying. But he’s smart enough to know that saying what he did is better than the real reason he wanted to leave - renting out his mouth and/or a-hole for alcohol/drug money. Rental income goes down when hospitalized.

I was getting gas one day and where the local hobos hung out and homeless at the city park(no one went there because of them) approached me and asked for exactly .75 cents. He was straight up truthful and said he and his "friends" mneeded exactly that much change for some beer.
I would probably give that guy a fiver and tell them to double down.

I was at the Siegen offramp last Friday and they had 3 guys trying to look like they were working for some charity. I'm on the phone with my dad, so I'm hardly even paying attention until this guy is standing a foot from me staring in my window telling me to roll down my window.
These guys were walking through cars while the light was green. It's a shame they weren't hit.
