Pandemic EBT Program

Does anyone have knowledge on how this is going to work? I saw the story on WAFB website but can’t figure out how to link it on mobile.

It’s going to be another bump on SNAP cards that will be spent on shite food or sold for pennies on the dollar
The SNAP system needs an overhaul & should require nutrition classes

FYI-In EBR , ALL public school students receive free meals. There is no income threshold, and hasn’t been for 5/6 years now.

At this point the state is paying for the foods & habits that lead to obesity & related issues as well as the treatments

WIC requires nutrition tutoring with a registered dietitian so why should SNAP recipients not receive the same? There already is the ability to do so.

I wish they would reform these programs especially in the larger cities. I think you could outsource a “healthy” meal prep service to the private sector. The meals would then be available to be delivered to the neighborhoods for pick up. This would eliminate some of the selling of the cards and ensure they are getting healthy meals. Some of the shite they buy on these EBT cards costs us double because we have to pay for diabetes treatments and open heart surgery on the back end.

I was in line at the grocery store the other day behind someone who has an EBT card. For the most part they seem to be used responsibly...some junk food but nothing out of line but this was an older lady buying. Just anecdotal but it was not the first time I have seen someone use the EBT . Most of the time it seems to be used appropriately.

And that is sad af.
Food stamp recipients received a large bump to their allowances this month. Individual recipients, without dependents, allowances were tripled. Why? And their still starving children? Sounds like a parenting issue.

An EBT will be given to all families that currently qualify for free/reduced school means. They can apply online for it, starting May 18th.

This EBT is funded federally, if that helps. States had to apply for it with USDA.
For what it's worth, I don't get the point of it either and it is shaking out to be a massive pain in my arse.

It’s one of the many reasons one can’t effectively statistically compare US States with Northern European countries.
The baselines are so different that the US results might as well be from a different species of humans.
The disparity between the haves & the have-nots is deeper than ever in the US and ironically we (our government) are spending more per infant & child than ever in our history.

Yeah. I don't get it.
My guess is their reasoning for the P-EBT is for families that cannot make it to feeding sites to pick up their free meals, but I feel like this is not very many people.

That's not how it works. Schools submit the # of meals they serve to the state and they receive a reimbursement check. Money is not in the hands of the schools ahead of time.

Since I have kids in the public schools Imma apply now for the EBT bennies and then do the obligatory registration with the Democratic Party at Cleo Field’s office after that.
