the primary reason that prices are shooting up for these types of items is packaging and energy costs.

Serious question: Why are the generic brands still consistently half the price of name brands? Shouldn't Dr. Thunder or whatever cost basically the same to manufacture, ship, etc. as its name brand counterpart? Obviously there's a difference related to branding costs, but the raw materials and labor involved are identical.

Don't drink soft too much, but when I do it is diet Dr. Pepper.

I very infrequently shop at Sam's, but have started again since Brandon started dry fricking everyone. Now I buy my soft drinks by the case. Pre-FJB never had to worry about it.

Yet you still paid the 8.99

Definitely a subject for another thread, but when the wife puts Diet Dr. Pepper on the shopping list, it must be Diet Dr. Pepper. No substitutes.
Literally it could have cost $50, and all other drinks are $5, she'd still get it.
Smh. It's the "I was born in New Orleans, and my Dad ate at Arnauds every Friday Night" in her that has her priorities mixed up.

I gave up. I refuse to pay that much. Water, tea, or kool-aid.
They are relying on their addicts now.

A big chunk is the advertising costs. There are none for Dr. Thunder (unless you count the generic Kroger or HEB ads).

A lot of the generic brands get their raw materials (food-wise) from the "big boys" because it didn't pass inspection and they get it on the cheap.

But yeah, plastic and aluminum should be the same unless they have a huge stockpile they bought years ago they are still working through.

And even that was $10.99 a year ago. Costco has been better than most places but I can't think of anything that hasn't gone up at least a couple bucks in there.

If it wasn't for the OT I would never know how much consumer goods have increased in the past 2 years.

Thank you good citizens of the OT.

I noticed this massive price increase a couple weeks ago. We never buy soft drinks to drink at home, but I usually get a couple 12 packs of Mountain Dew when we go to the camp for the kids. Went to Albertson's and they were $7.99 or 8.99, I can't remember exactly.

Needless to say, we drank water that weekend.

This week I paid $125 for one gallon of Roundup Professional weed killer at Home Depot. Last year I paid $140 for a 3 gallon container. Inflation is way higher than 8.3%.

Another example is just a few months ago Purina Dog Chow was $11.50 for a 20 pound bag. Now the bag is 18.5 pounds and cost $13.50.

Premium 2L sodas in Louisiana went from 1.25 to 2.15 back to 1.48 and now 2.50.

All the discount sodas taste fantastic when they are 70% cheaper than name brand drinks. Coke may have officially gotten itself replaced with Sams Cola forever at our house. One is currently 2.50, the other .96.

$2/lb chicken recently went to $3/lb chicken all at once.

So I'm still able to get my discounted sugar death bottles but have been priced out of chicken. Thanks Biden.

I pretty much never drink soda. I might drink a couple sprites a year or so, but those prices are beyond ridiculous.

Bidenflation doing work.
