Harvard Business Review – The Ethics of Overemployment

Isn't this like a contactor? I could be an accountant on contract with the city of Lafayette and also have contract with the city of Shreveport to provide the same services.

Or I could cut grass via a contract with the DOTD and also cut grass via another contract with LSU.

Unless, under the hiring agreement I sign my name that I will not seek additional employment elsewhere I don't see an issue.

He clearly is a low level manager.

The reality is...

I get to work. I grab some coffee. I shoot the shite with the other guys for an hour. I plan for lunch for an hour. Try to agree on lunch for an hour.

Step out of the office, dont eat, wash my truck. Grab a drink.

Come back to the office. Grab some coffee.

Shoot the shite for an hour. Usually put out a fire or two that someone allowed to become a mess.

Shoot the shite for an hour.

Head home.

I doubt I do 30 minutes of work a week.

I could likely work a work from home position from work with zero issues.

As long as the work asked of them is being done well and on time, who gives a shite? C-level execs can serve on boards for several companies at a time.

Salary doesn’t mean “paid by the task.” In most employment agreements, a salaried employee is still being paid for full-time availability and duties, which includes being present during business hours, collaborating with others, and responding to issues as they arise — not just ticking off a short list of tasks. If you only work 2 hours a day, conceal that fact, and still collect a full-time paycheck, you’re getting paid for work and availability you didn’t provide.

And you have all this time to work another job and make more money, but you don't.

I don't want or need two jobs. Any other brain busters?

If you actually learned how to read you would see that in my first post of this thread I said that I don't like working my 1 job, why the shite would I want to work 2? It's definitely not because it's "illegal", it's because I don't want to attempt to juggle 2 jobs at once.

If I was single with no kids, I'd probably do it.

As someone who is incredibly lethargically efficient, I disagree.

I've hit every performance goal I've ever been tasked with... All while fricking off 95% of the time.

You only work 30 minutes a week. Add another 30 and you still have time for all that plus another salary.

I’m not sure why he’s struggling with that

My job has an exclusivity clause in the contract, and I have to give written notice to take on outside work. And even then, if I did and didn’t tell them, it would be a contract violation, not fraud or theft. The only people committing fraud or theft are hourly workers claiming to work hours they don’t, or workers whose pay is task completion based and they are lying about completing those tasks.
