There is a weather observatory at the top. It’s manned year round. I believe it’s manned 24/7/365. You can sign up to spend the night up there.
The train is run by a private company and does not go to the observatory during the winter. It does run daily for the idiots that want to practice freezing to death but it doesn’t go to the observatory.
I had the best potato soup imaginable at the lodge a couple miles short of the top. It would be very easy to get in over your head on this hike. The presidential mountain range is known for drastically changing weather.

I’ve made that hike in August . 80 degrees at the trailhead . 40 degrees with a 30 mile wind on top. Fog dropped down on us too right as we hit the last mile which is a massive rock scramble. Wild stuff

Man!!!!
I pack accordingly even I'm going hike Mt. Driskell bruh. If I'm in the legit mountains this time a year. I packing like a new ice age is potentially coming.

FWIW, Mt. Washington is on the Appalachian Trail. If someone is hiking sections of the trail, they may not know the weather is expected to be dangerous. Northbound AT thru-hikers (Georgia to Maine) should long since have finished. They start around March, about 6 months on trail.
My guess is most, if not all of the rescued hikers were day or weekend hiking and were simply ignorant.
Fun Fact: The highest recorded wind speed on land was on Mt. Washington.

But he also has a solid point here

I imagine that mountain is quite benign in the summer months, minus the typical high winds.

My wife followed this girl on Instagram that is from Maine and recorded every day of her hike on the AT from Georgia back home. She summited Mt. Washington in mid-September. She knew. But she is also an experienced hiker, these people weren't.

There is a picture of me standing in front of this sign on our honeymoon in 2004. That was the 2nd week of October and it was 35 degrees on top. Imagine 2 weeks later

A mylar space bag costs about 3 bucks and weighs less than a sock.

Mid September is still within reasonable range. If she spent that much time on the AT she was ready for it.

These are the same yutes that can’t hold a conversation or communicate wo their devices. Yet had no idea of real-time conditions.Selective harvesting would’ve been the way to go…..

I hope they made them buy a ticket for the train, otherwise scammers will learn how to ride for free

Hope they send those idiots the bill to cover the costs of their rescue.

I've seen that map. Forgot it crosses Mt Jackson before Mt. Washington. Both are tough climbs.

It’s get windy up there.
That's an understatement. Some of the highest wind gusts on the planet are regularly measured there.
