I've worked majority on healthcare projects: Ochsner, Children's New Orleans, Touro, and commercial buildings throughout downtown. But I have moderate experience with heavy civil and been a part of one small industrial project. The only residential experience I have is gutting houses with friends after Katrina using 4-wheelers and trailers in our neighborhood for side cash.

I called people and told them I was going to be in their city on certain days and set up a time to meet with them....I am in the construction field (landscape architect) and in DFW there is a demand for all levels of construction personnel. The only possible hiccup may be if you dont speak spanish. But I think that is not a big deal.

Deer hunting holds a much greater value to me than being surrounded by the folks that live over there. So yes, much rather Kansas than California.

To each their own. I love Boston, would love to move there but the COL would most certainly outweigh the potential salary increase. Same goes for Seattle where the construction market is booming. Personal choices, no dislike for either area, just California.

Pick out a place to live , move there. Send out tons of resumes telling people when you'll be there.

You seem like a reasonable enough guy. Just giving you a hard time. Honestly, best of luck on your search. It's going to suck and be deflating at times, but eventually something will stick.

Yep. I'm trying to get back to the Nola area. And I've got two of the areas most high profile projects in the last decade on my resume, but I haven't got any call backs. If I were still local, that wouldn't be the case.
I actually landed a job before, strictly because I told the company I was moving out there already on my cover letter. My ex boss told me directly after I had been working awhile.
Companies will only look at outside candidates, if they've exhausted the local supply. Sometimes if you really want to move, you just have to either show up in a city with some savings, or take a job your overqualified for. And I'm assuming an assistant pm would have less than 5 years experience.
