She mentioned the other day that each time she goes to an appointment or has a procedure the state sends her a CVS gift card. In the last month she's gotten 3 cards totaling $65. Also, she gets her prescriptions at no charge. She did mention that you can't buy booze or cigs with the card. The state is PAYING her to go to her appointments.

You got a housekeeper for your trailer?
Interesting.
Interesting.

Are we supposed to assume your housekeeper is an illegal immigrant?

Still substantially less than a single night in a hospital.
Preventative healthcare is far less than anything inside of a hospital. If it takes a gift card for people to actually GO to their appointments and maybe improve their health to stay out of a hospital, I'm all for it.

And? Surely there is more to this riveting story.

Maybe if you paid her enough to get healthcare she wouldn't have to. Cheap arse.

I'm assuming you are withholding social security and medicare tax from her paycheck...

Honestly paying someone $20 to go to the doctor probably saves them in the long run. Imagine the cost when something isn't caught early on and requires much more expensive treatment. They probably found that this method encourages people to go to the doctor and thus lowers health costs overall.

How much do you pay her?

Man this is so much BS.
You dont get all prescription meds "free". They have a formulary with certain drugs. Most of them cheap as shite already like antibiotics, painkillers, and SSRI's.
If you have a chronic illness you are fricked. So fricked. Absolutely fricked. They do not cover any drugs for illnesses like Crohns, Ulcerative Colitis, etc... want to see a specialist? Yea right, good luck. May take you 3 months at best. May get to see him 2 or 3 times A YEAR.
Ill never understand the outrage towards the poor as if they are somehow receiving some great awesome care for free.

This type of attitude is why Louisiana will always lead the way in high taxes and corruption. Politicians will keep bleeding its apathetic voters and the voters will keep those politicians in office.

Louisiana spent a larger percentage of its own state revenue on the Medicaid program than any other state except New York
