Only insensitive control freaks do this.
And they enjoy it.

Used to give my employees permission to turn away dine-in customers if they came in too late to closing time. We closed at 10 and didn't allow dine-ins after 9:30. I have no tolerance for people like that.

So you closed at 9:30?

I was at an after hours clinic a few weeks ago with my son. They closed at 6:00, and we made it there by 4:30, but I felt guilty seeing all of the people in the waiting room. But, there were multiple people rolling on there at 5 til. I felt bad for the staff.

Wait you felt bad about going to a walk in clinic 90 minutes before closing?

Sounds like you closed at 9:30, not 10.

Have your shite together, if you don't I hope they kick you out.

I know a few places that have cut off times for service.

I don’t know why restaurants don’t communicate this better. Not only to customers, but to their employees.

XYZ Cafe Opens at 11am and seats it’s last table at 10pm. To go orders accepted until 9:45.

Yeah because there were SO many people in there, and it was the day before Christmas Eve. It was obviously going to be at least a couple of hours. But, that was the earliest we were able to go.

If it’s at a bar, and you’re friends with the owner, and he’s cool with it, that’s cool.

Every other instance, it’s not.

People who usually stay past closing aren't the type socially aware enough to give a decent tip

Their doors are open until 6 because they’ll take walk ins until 6. If they wanted their employees off the clock at 6 they’d figure out an earlier time to close.

Unless the server is just downright garbage, I’m 20% minimum. But nothing pisses me off more than places that don’t adhere to their posted hours.

doesnt matter in my book, if you can get your shite and get to the register before closing time gets there you get checked out, if not leave your shite at the register and get out, register is closed, we are locking the doors.

most retail places i see lock the doors like 10-15 minutes early anyway so people can leave but new ones cant enter 2 minutes to closing time.

I agree for casual dining or bar food but places that take reservations will usually have a cut off for walkins

restaurants are pretty much up to owners and staff to decide but i think it should be orders to go only or get there early enough to be leaving at or just before closing

but retail it doesnt matter in my book, if you can get your shite and get to the register before closing time gets there you get checked out, if not leave your shite at the register and get out, register is closed, we are locking the doors.

Reminds me of an ongoing argument I had with my boss and still do with him being in a different market. He always had me do last call right at closing. I would tell him that last call meant closing time was approaching and for everyone to get their final orders in. We'd go back and forth and I'd want to bang my head against a wall.

What kind of dumps are you people talking about?

It's not trashy at all.

I keep late hours which means that I am often out to eat late. At the places that I go to I always ask the maitre de or wait staff sitting me if it is too late for the kitchen to be open and/or to get served.....then I usually reiterate my concern to my server. I have never once been refused or had a problem with the service or food....and I tip goood.

Tell them that it is almost time to close and would they mind going elsewhere. If they insist on staying, lock the door and tell them "now youse can't leave."
